My daughter has just been referred to the Long Covid Clinic so Covid is still a worry for us even though she no longer has the virus.
I have just been told I am now eligible for the booster jab …I’m worried about having it because I had such a bad reaction to the second jab I’m wondering if physiologically maybe as a family we may be more susceptible to the virus my daughter had had both jabs but still ended up in ICU I know I’m making no sense here…I’m just scared about having it and the same reaction again. Throwing up and not being able to keep my balance is no fun.
Summer I think we are all a bit scared of having the booster, but I would question whether your daughter, who was so ill with Covid, would still be with us if she hadn’t had the first 2 jabs!
No medical procedures are completely safe, so there are no certain right answers & that makes it a personal choice for everybody.
When we were children I am sure that most of us were given live vaccines of Polio, Small pox & Diphtheria ,but I have always been glad that my parents took that risk with me.
See if you can talk to a doctor about whether you & your family are more at risk from the booster jab following your daughters experience.
@summer Very sorry to hear about your daughter, please send her my best wishes and I hope she will overcome these dreadful after effects. ((hugs))
The Polio, Small Pox and Diphtheria vaccines were fully tested and based on a totally different principle to the Covid vaccines, and the Doctor can only recommend having the covid vaccine otherwise he would be struck off.
Posters on OFF are not medically qualified to give you advice on these issues and neither am I, so you must do what your body is telling you regarding the booster jab…
I wish you and your daughter all the best Summer…Much love from the Fox…xx
@summer Hi Summer I had my booster yesterday and am ok.
I was dreading it having had a severe reaction to the second vaccination which caused me problems for 9 days.
I am glad vaccinations are over for a while and that I decided to have the booster…
@summer I can like others here completely understand your concerns and already there have been a few excellent replies.
It is a worry, not knowing whether or not you will react to a booster jab and especially when that will be a different type of vaccine to the two you have already had.
The biggest question I suppose is whether you think that the possible reaction to the booster might be worse than catching the virus and only you can make that decision, but as others have said: if you can get advice from someone with relevant knowledge at least you can make an informed decision.
Pharmacists can help too (the one that gave me my flu jab does Covid jabs too & was very knowledgable for example) as well as others involved in the vaccination programme like Practice Nurses as well as GP’s, so as Twink suggested earlier you might find that discussing your concerns with somebody with the relevant expertise.
Meantime have a virtual hug.
That is not strictly true ! Mups had a severe reaction to her Jab and her doctor told her it was likely to have been caused by the jab and a few others have been told the same!
The jabs we had as children were live vaccines , which means they injected the actual infection in a small dose to make your body produce more antibodies quickly. They were tested over a longer period but there were risks to some who may have a faulty immune system…we just didn’t hear about it because social media didn’t exist in those days!
The Covid vaccine may not be perfect, but they didn’t have years to test it, yet it has dramatically reduced the number of Covid cases.
As I said in my post, “it is a personal choice”, but maybe a doctor would be able to advise Summer whether family immune systems act in a similar way. That may help her make the right choice for her!
Mags I had my flu jab in Wednesday ( not due to have the Covid booster yet ) and the common side effects listed were dizziness & sickness, so perhaps it was the flu jab that caused you to feel ill.
So far I feel fine!
Well, to date l have been unable to book a booster jab anywhere nearer than 15 MLS
from Melton Mowbray? ? I am Loth to book at one of these sites as it will entail
booking a taxi to get there and return again at a cost of about £30 each way ?( The last
time l went to Leicester for a DVT scan cost me £40 each way !!) which l had to repeat the next day as the hospital failed to provide the scan on the designated day !!!
So it cost me £120 for the two days as the driver waited for me the second time as my
appointment was later then!!
My GP refers me to NHS 119 number, which l have tried twice already, but they only
repeat the instructions to attend the vac centres that are at least 15 MLS from melton??
So it seems that Melton has no vac centre as yet, and l have failed to find out if there
ever will be!!! Trying to get information from the various links turns into being passed
from link to link with no result!!
All l need is an answer to my question? Will Melton be getting its own vac centre or not ??
Donkeyman!
Good advice Summer! DM could also ask at the largest local pharmacy as they may be aware of a more local place, as I had both my Covid jabs at a pharmacy 4 miles away.
Medical evidence as opposed from conspiraciesrus has shown people are contagious up to 48 hours before displaying any symptoms themselves. Covid is spread by droplets so just talking to someone with covid puts others at risk .
I mean you caught it from someone didn’t you ?
Can you recall someone coughing and sputtering all over you ?
I think not
This is the case with most viruses Muddy because it isn’t like a wasp sting, where you feel the pain immediately! I think the virus will take a couple of days before you start to feel ill!
How many of us have felt a bit warm or ache but still gone to work thinking " it us just a bit of a cold , I will be ok in a couple of days"
Chickenpox is infectious from 2 days before the spots appear to until they have crusted over, usually 5 days after they first appeared.
Mumps causes your salivary glands to swell. These glands are just below and in front of your ears.
Mumps is most infectious from a few days before your glands swell until a few days afterward.
Symptoms of measles appear around 10 days after you become infected.
You are infectious with many viruses before you know you have the virus!
The only persons I came into contact with for the five days leading up to my positive covid test were Mrs Fox, my daughter and her hubby. Neither my daughter or her hubby have caught covid Muddy, however, Mrs Fox started with symptoms a couple of days before me.
I don’t mix with people if I can help it, and never without a mask.
Foxy this is one of your quotes, but now it seems that you may have caught it from your wife… and I don’t know if she had the jab!
We each make our own choice & nobody knows if it is the right one for them, so why worry those who made the choice to have the jab.
You seem to be determined to prove that your choice was the right one, & that is OK when you can prove it . The majority of us chose to have the vaccine, but you didn’t hear any of us saying " well you didn’t have the jab" when you caught it. Isn’t that because we all care and want all our members to survive… no matter what choice they made!
