Ghosts: What use are they?

I have seen it, did nothing for me… But its very popular with lots of people, my daughter and her partner, its popcorn time.

Can any Walking Dead fans tell me, why haven’t the Zombies become Skeletons after years of flesh rotting away

There must be other life forms somewhere out there. It would be absolutely arrogant think our Earth is the only planet with life and for those with life starting way before our Earth became colonised with various living things, life must be far advance than what we see here.

I think our biggest hang up about extraterrestrial life is it has to fit our definition of life. Which of course is based on Humans. Life as we understand it, but what about life as we don’t understand it. That leads down so many rabbit holes and endless possibilities. Little green men

All life as we know it is carbon based, but who knows what is out there …silicone snakes? There could be anything out there able to move around intelligently

But I don’t believe in alien sightings or abduction.
Reasons If you can travel anywhere in space you might come here once. But face folks to a race that advanced we’re just not that interesting. Nor do I believe that a race that advanced would resort to sexually deviant behavior for research. That part is simply bizarre.

To understand the origin of life on Earth, and to evaluate the potential for life on exoplanets, we must understand the pathways that lead from chemistry to biology. Recent experiments suggest that a chemically rich environment that provides the building blocks of membranes, nucleic acids and peptides, along with sources of chemical energy, could result in the emergence of replicating, evolving cells. The broad scope of synthetic chemistry suggests that it may be possible to design and construct artificial life forms based upon a very different biochemistry than that of existing biology.

My word, professor Woollie, I am impressed. :astonished:

I must say though in past experiences…You can know a little about a subject and add into the conversation a few gems, related gems…soon get the reputation you wish for… :icon_razz:

This article was transcribed from a presentation delivered by Professor Szostak at the Molecular Frontiers Symposium on Tailored Biology at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, May 2017. It is published here in MFJ with permission from Professor Szostak.

He did keep it very readable…

I wonder if Azz would start a new thread about Aliens and Life, using some of the posts here

Seems a shame to go off topic and ruin a good thread about ghosts

No need to wait for Azz, Marciniak, why can’t you start one if it is what you are interested in? :slightly_smiling_face:

Not on my watch you won’t, susie. Please share your views, susie, there is a lot of interest in this subject.

There are so many things us humans know little (or nothing) about.
They are still making new discoveries under the sea, new species of creatures we never knew existed. I believe the same applies to unknown life everywhere.

I read once, that there is a difference between ghosts and spirits, but most people tend to talk of them as one and the same. I cannot find the book at the mo, which explains it, but I seem to remember he said ghosts are entities that never existed on earth in human form, but spirits are deceased humans and animals that were once here, with us.

So many people mock any suggestion of an afterlife, but they are usually the very people who have never bothered to read and learn anything, so are just talking ‘blind’ really. It is the same with mocking any subject one knows nothing about. If they don’t understand it, it can’t possibly be true!

I just like to think nobody in this world knows everything.

Have noticed threads have posts removed for drifting off Topic, here there are about twenty interesting posts off topic, so instead of having them discarded, use them as the introduction posts of a new thread…. so I and perhaps others can reply to them

Wouldn’t seem right starting a new thread with replying posts to a different thread especially if they are removed

Thought asking Azz might save confusion
