Foxys Forthcoming Hospital Visit

That is the problem Foxy, a fixated thinker does not want to interrupt the flow, even for a medical emergency.

Quite right Annie, I’m not cut out for doing jigsaws and watching box sets…

Well alright then…Not golf!

I’m sorry your procedure was postponed. That must’ve been disappointing.

HaNg in there sly old grey !

Thanks Minx, it seems really busy at the hospital, and it’s cardiac patients that are taking up all the beds and not covid…Strange… :flushed:

I read yes. Perhaps it’s long term Covid side effects?

I’m sure there are plenty of other sources confirming this : https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/conditions-and-diseases/coronavirus/heart-problems-after-covid19

Hi

It is easy to become fixated OGF.

Covid has meant Social Distancing in Hospitals, which has reduced bed capacity and involved very expensive barriers being put up in Wards, reduced availability of X Rays and scans etc.

This has meant a huge backlog of treatments, including Cancer and Heart Treatments which means conditions worsening and taking longer to treat.

This is basic cause and effect.

This is why there is a huge backlog and operations cancelled.

If you are having an ICD, that means that you are at risk of sudden death, your risk has increased greatly simply due to the huge backlog which has happened since Covid.

The Shrewsbury CCU was closed recently because of a Covid Outbreak, I am a known Cardiac Patient, I have now had 6 heart attacks in 16 months.

I can, to a certain degree, self treat, so the Ambulance Response time has been reduced from 9 to 18 minutes.

The last one was 57 minutes.

I was fortunate that I survived and that I did not have to wait in the ambulance queue for hours.

Locally people have died because of having to wait in Ambulances outside A&E.

This situation did not arise before Covid.

It really is as simple as that.

There is also a lack of medical personnel. Doctors are retiring, nurses are in short supply, there is a massive recruitment problem. One in ten nursing posts are unfilled. As they are planning to force NHS staff to have the vaccine tens of thousands could leave by April. So you have a combination of Covid pressures and a lack of staff. They can build and equip as many hospitals as they like but if they cannot staff them this will not help. It’s not a question of throwing money at the problem it’s an issue of government poor stewardship and policies over the years but particularly very recently.

Sorry to hear about the postponement Foxy, but you know it’s kinda reassuring that they felt your procedure could safely wait a few more days. So you’re not up there with the critical patients who are taking the beds!

The time will fly by, just 9 more days. Rest up in that time and keep yourself as fit and well as you can so you’ll be in the best possible position for the surgery. Will be thinking of you :bouquet: xx

Thanks @Bathsheba, very nice post. I’ve been out walking most days and last Sunday was the last time I had a funny turn and had to return home. A rest day today apart from the usual Tesco shop and a few odd jobs around the place. I shall have a go at my usual five miler tomorrow and see how it goes. Thanks again for you post…x

Might it be better to try half that mileage until after the op, Foxy?

Sorry about the cancellation Foxy…you can always waste some time here  what seems like a few minutes here turns out to be hours
Xx

Hi

Foxy, if you are having an implant defib fitted, there is a reason for it.

I know you are stubborn, but , like me ,sometimes you have to be sensible.

Once it is fitted you will be back to long walks and runs.

Until then, you stay near a phone. preferably with someone near.

They are not for heart attacks, they are for cardiac arrest.

It’s not worth putting the shorts on for anything less Mups… :running_man:

Thanks Summer, I suppose I can expect a few more cancellations with the recent pressure on the NHS. I know what you mean about time flying by on the forum though… :flushed:

@OldGreyFox, “It’s cardiac patients taking up the beds” ??
Maybe because it’s a Cardiac hospital OGF ??
Just saying !

Thanks Swim, how are you feeling just lately? I’ll bet you will be glad when 2021 comes to an end, I know I will… :mask:
I’m not too bothered about getting back to doing the long runs again, but I’ll be happy with long walks and short runs. I’m under strict orders to take my phone with me and ring Mrs Fox every half hour while out walking, and my heart monitor is my constant companion to keep an eye on my heart rate. If it starts climbing off the scale I get breathless and have to find a wall to lean on while it passes, it’s pointless and dangerous to carry on, so I make my way back home as soon as my heart returns to normal. Fortunately these attacks are rare, but you never know when they are going to happen.

It’s not strictly a cardiac hospital Donkeyman. It’s massive and covers every medical condition you can mention, it’s just that they have the most up-to-date equipment and the best cardiologists in Yorkshire. According to nurse Gladys (the nurse I spoke to) the sudden influx of cardiac patients was unprecedented, and in all the years she has worked there has never been such a sudden surge.
