Ugh - Not even close :!: :-p
The last couple of Wednesdays we have taken advantage of sons Orange Wednesday offer and so first saw Elysium then this week it was Riddick (guess who is a sci fi fan then)
Watched a few films lately - âThe Croodsâ and âThis Is The Endâ.
âThe Croodsâ is brilliant animated entertainment from the class act of animation - DreamWorks. All about a caveman family and their search for the âlightâ. Very funny and the characters are very engaging and likeable. Top marks .
âThis Is the Endâ is quirky to say the least. It appears to be made on a very low budget with some pretty naff special effects until nearly the end. The storyline is also odd in that real actors play the parts of themselves? It is all about the apocalypse and heaven and hell so it should go down well with a number of OFF members . I found it funny but not hilariously so but I did watch it till the very end because really it was so odd.
And it was the cinema last night again, we went to see RIPD, which may not be to everyones taste but which we found hysterical. Basically about an elite âpolice forceâ made up of âdeadâ police from down the ages, whose souls have been snatched, prior to judgement, in order to serve in the RIPD. Their remit? to search out and round up rogue souls who have refused to pass over. The special effects are seamless and amazing, two scenes featuring âbullet timeâ have to be seen to be believed. and some of the lines are truly funny. But like I said, not to everyones taste.
We bought a zoo and The best exotic marigold hotel, enjoyed them both very much.
Oh yes loved those two. Have you noticed that Matt Damon does not seem to have aged a bit in decades? As for best Marigold, all I can say is, if you enjoyed the film, read the book.
Film stars dont age - they would be âtoo horrifiedâ - bless 'em âŠ
Just watched a movie that really surprised me - Scenic Route (2013). It surprised me with the quality of the acting and dialogue. Nearly lost me at the beginning as I thought it might be one of them arty farty films where words would dominate from start to finish. Wasnât like that at all though. The whole film was excellent from start to finish. The end worked well too and didnât leave me disappointed. Only thing I would say is that it might suit men more than women.
Worth watching.
Damn good film I can wholeheartedly recommend - V for Vendetta. Great storyline, good action and acting. A rarity. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0434409/
Went to see Enders Game on Sunday last. I read the series of books one after the other a few years back and just loved them. I was a bit worried that they would have messed the story up but, no, it was fairly accurate. Well apart from one thing, Ben Kingsley played a character with Maori heritage, and his accent fluctuated between S. African, Australian and N.Zealand.
Watched a few films lately and can recommend âThe Worldâs Endâ. The story line is crazy and because of it I had to watch it 2x to appreciate how funny it was.
For gawdâsake donât rent âThe Wolverine 2013â as it is the biggest pile of c*** I have seen for a long time. Makes me feel strangely ill that such garbage has been allowed to make it to the big screen as the storyline is so awful it beggarâs belief. Shockingly bad.
Hocus Pocus and Star trek into darkness can recommend them both.
Not seen Worlds End yet but if it is as funny as Hot Fuzz then I know I will enjoy. Just as I enjoyed Wolverine! Thing is if you are not a fan of Marvel Comics then you will not enjoy their films, which are âmostlyâ true to the magazines. Besides have to admit I was concentrating more on Hugh Jackman than the story, but luckily I had my very own interpreter to explain the finer points on the way home. Although I did not need him on Wednesday when we went to see the newest Thor outing. I have to say here that the young guy who plays Loki just amazes me in that he looks and sounds so different when he is in character.
I saw Skyfall on a cruise ship last week - was bored stiff throughout.
Blimey there is just no pleasing some folk is there? Personally I thoroughly enjoyed this film, as did a few million others judging by the returns.
Itâs not a case of pleasing some people at all - itâs just that different people have different tastes in film. Skyfall happened to be showing, it was a quiet afternoon and it was a harmless way to pass a couple of hours in the theatre. Obviously Iâm not a Bond fan, so it was evidently wasted on me, but hey, it was free.
Latest one I watched (on youtube) was Instinct with Anthony Hopkins (thought it was Sean Connery at first!). Excellent film.
Went to see Philomena last Friday - really enjoyed it as well as my fish and chips in Weatherspoons beforehand
Smurfs 2. Damn good film with a heavy storyline. Nasty wizard tries to extract Smurf essence for his dastardly deeds. Well the stuff gives him magical powers and the more he can get the better. He tried to butter up a girl Smurf (who he made initially incidentally out of clay I think it was) to give him the Smurf essence formula, and he succeeded. Well not going to spoil the story for you by telling you anymore.
Smurf 2 rocks!
I loved that film too MKJ, my favourite character is Gargamelâs cat Azrael. Really evil he is and the kids love him! Did you see the first Smurfâs one? I havenât been to the pictures / flicks since I left my teens but nowadays I am roped into going along with the grandchildren to see such delights as Monsters University, Despicable Me (and 2), Wreck it Ralph (dreadful film), Epic (brilliant), Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs (I know âŠ), The Croods and many more. Best of all was last yearâs Rise of the Guardians. Being dragged off to see Turbo this weekend, about a slug I think
