Film - the most recent you have seen?

Off to see “Pitch Perfect 2” with my daughter and grandaughters tomorrow.

The way we were, wasn’t Robert Redford beautiful !!

Just got back from seeing the film "Pitch Perfect"2 it was brilliant as funny as the first.

I also thought ‘Pitch Perfect’ was an enjoyable funny film too but a little slow in places if I remember rightly.

Ex Machina

A young programmer is selected to participate in a breakthrough experiment in artificial intelligence by evaluating the human qualities of a breathtaking female A.I.

Thought provoking film where it’s strengths lie not in the special effects but in the clever dialogue and character developments, along with a few unexpected twists in the plot.

The ‘robot’ is being tested to see whether it can pass the ‘Turin Test’ …

The Turing test is a test of a machine’s ability to exhibit intelligent behavior equivalent to, or indistinguishable from, that of a human.

which it undoubtedly does.

Number of issues raise their heads with regard to life like robots, one of which is sexual attraction. Still, this isn’t new as there are already lifelike manikins used for exactly that: sexual satisfaction.

Overall a clever film with good acting but one that is more subtle making viewers think at the time but also to contemplate on what the future holds with regard to us and ‘them’: ‘them’ being the robots that will exist all to soon.

Worth watching but not an exciting film.

We went to see Testament to Youth based on Vera Britton’s experiences during WWI One of the most moving films I’ve seen for a long time. Don’t usually cry in films but I did in this one. Beautifully filmed and great cast.

Will have to try and catch that one.

“Fat Amy” was absolutely brill;-)

i watched “ex machina” and found it rather scary (in the same way that “gone girl” was)

I’m sure it is a fantastic film but I knew I wouldn’t be able to cope with it after reading Vera Brittain’s absolutely fabulous book

Our latest film was A Royal Night Out, based on the Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret having an adventure when they are ‘let out’ on VE night.

It’s very funny, very silly but a good 90 minutes enjoyment. If you like the wonderful Roger Allam you will love him as the proprietor of a Soho dive who is absolutely purring to find he is hosting P2 (Princess Margaret) “I’ve never had a princess in my knocking shop before”

I think it is only very loosely ‘based’ on fact!

I liked that film myself, actually. A couple more that are based on the robot theme, and which I also liked were…

Automata Automata (2014) - IMDb which interestingly stars Antonio Banderas. Not the usual choice of sci-fi film lead but he suits the part.

and

The Machine The Machine (2013) - IMDb which has a plot not all that far from Ex Machina in some ways, though a little darker.

Oh, forgot to mention that I’m looking forward to “Tomorrowland”.

I’ve seen ‘The Machine’ and like you said it was a darker; a lot darker in fact.

The ‘Automata’ I haven’t seen … yet  . I’m pretty sure it is showing in a cinema near me  . Will give my verdict soon.

The Nun’s story, the fabulous Audrey Hepburn at her best.

Watched Paddington with youngest grandson yesterday.Good laugh.

Well … lol
At the ‘Old Gits’ tomorrow (free coffee/tea and biscuits + chaep tickets) we have Whiplash

I loved this when I saw it last year and have wanted to see it again but it’s on fairly early … hmmm

watch this space

oh poo … spellin/typo and now I can’t edit

love the iPad but … eeeeeeeek sometimes it’s not great poking things wiv me digits

watched ‘testament of youth’ - what a wonderful adaptation of the book!

one of the saddest books I ever read. i cannot imagine a circumstance where in only a few years all my siblings and friends were dead and the world a totally different place. according to shirley williams her mother never got over the war with the loss of all her contemporaries and was never truly happy throughout her life.

OK …
Made it to the flix to see Whiplash again and it disturbed me for the second time BUT … wow … a fantastically intense experience.
One of my friends has seen it 5 times now.

A superficial problem I have with this film is that, although the young actor is pretty superb in the part, I find his facial features unsavoury in some respects.

With a film such as this, where we have close-ups ad nauseum, then I need someone with different features.
I don’t mean that I require something pretty or handsome, it’s only that his head/face was not up to it for me.

OK … I am very picky  such is my background annat innit

The ‘bullying’ conductor was FABULOUS again and well deserved his Oscar.
