Elderly people who exercise 'live five years longer'

Thank you
I shan’t be going near shops … that would mean riding on the road and I’m a novice innit.

Can’t remember how to change gear atm :!:

I lent our grandson one of my bikes. It was a steel framed Marin. I’d had it from new and had just spent £130-00 on it getting the worn out gears, chain and cables replaced. A few months later he had to tell me it had been stolen, even though he’d chained it up.

A good bike and a regrettable loss.

Oooooo not nice

There’s probably a moral to your story … hmmmmmmm :frowning:

Guess it wasn’t insured then

No real moral to the story but it shows that chaining a bike up might deter a casual opportunist thief but not a determined one. No, it wasn’t insured.

oh dear :-(:-(:frowning:
Like the determined burglar then. Nothing much to be done

Tried my bike out a few times down the lane and have figured out hw to change gear

I’m rubbish at steering and, yikes, stopping is something I shall keep practising

Yes, the stopping part is very important.

lol … YESSSS … there has to be something I have yet to discover

I must say that my initial thoughts are that these thinner tyres make me more wobbly

The thread shot by me a bit and I’ve only just noticed the photo of your bike Rachel. Very smart. Room for a good sized saddlebag too. I see the cat is giving it the once-over. I hope it approves.

Not sure I want a saddle bag but a basket at the front or bag to put my handbag (and knitting) in is something I quite fancy.
Just don’t like the thought of having ‘stuff’ behind me where I can’t keep an eye on it.

Might take the pannier off.

I AM joking about the knitting

Unsure why I’m posting on a thread for ‘elderly’ people  … surely it doesn’t mean me ?

Ah! how the ‘age’ thing creeps up on us all. I took up cycling again 20 years ago when I was aged 50 (yes, I am that age). I still have plenty of energy though, probably because I’ve been able to keep up cycling.

I rode 19 miles today, most of that was off-road and hilly. Here is where we rode to. Nearly all uphill. This photo taken just before the great pleasure of rolling all the way down that path in the distance.

I don’t see any other 70 year-old people doing this. Rather than being a bit worried by my age, I’m actually quite proud of still being able to do such rides. Won’t be able to do it forever of course.

The next aging step involves talking to people at bus stops and saying “Here, do you know how old I am?”

It’s the use it or lose it thing, I wasn’t half as strong or fit at 40 as I am now, hope it continues a while longer.

Lovely view BTW

I say well done Rachel. I’d love to have the guts to go on a bike again.

Thanks Myra although I don’t think it takes guts as I have no intention of cycling on sny roads.
Even the pavement is beyond me

I need to feel that there’s nothing within yards either side

Just tried to copy something but it didn’t work. Will have another try…

Altered the height of my saddle (think it was too low)

Yes, I think it would have to be comfortable. You’re inspiring me Rachel. I’m thinking of hiring a bike on the Isle of Cumbrae and cycling round the island. Haven’t done that since I was a child. Have walked round it with my walking group, but really fancy cycling round it

That sounds like a nice idea. I’m rubbish ! very wobbly but hope to improve and gain confidence … hmmmmm:confused:

Saddle soreness can be problem when taking up riding again.

Well I just finished a 6-7 mile jog and it was the best I have felt for weeks. My knee is definitely improved so going by that and the way I was feeling I should think I have lost quite a bit of weight already. Won’t weigh till the end of the month though.

No animal products diet and exercise rocks  .

I guess it would be for anyone who can cycle properly but I was only ever a novice.
Early days for me
