Good news Art and I hope you have no reaction to the jab over the next few days…
I had my first AstraZenica jab today. I had to wait 15 minutes afterwards before I was allowed home
They gave me a two page information sheet with possible side effects and a request to send details of any side effects I experience to the TGA and the web address and phone number of who to advise.
I also received a card which folds in two with the information about my jab and space for the next jab as well as space for the flu vaccine to be entered. I presume this will form part of my Covid certificate.

I was there for about half an hour in total as there were only two nurses doing the injections and a steady stream of people with appointments.
Despite the UK’s recent slowdown in vaccinations it seems that the target for vaccinating the over-50’s has been reached a few days earlier than expected, meaning that over-40’s are to be offered their jabs starting tomorrow (Tuesday 13th April) with those in their late 40’s expected to be offered vaccination first according to this morning’s Times.
Their report goes on to say:
'… supplies are expected to pick up again later this month and health chiefs are now more optimistic that this will allow the vaccination programme to move on to the second phase.
Supply constraints mean that not everyone in their forties is likely to be invited at once in what is described as “easing into rather than charging into” the next stage.’
There’s also some talk of the possibility of encouraging regular travellers such as hauliers, diplomats and footballers the vaccination.
Yes I know it’s subscription-only and that you might not be able to access the full thing but there is a free trial for those interested, otherwise what I’ve posted above gives the general idea.
I have just booked my second AZ vaccination it will be 8.5 weeks since my first .
My surgery has completed over 50 so it seems things are moving along quite quickly and appointments are short of 12 weeks.
That’s good news Bruce!
Pleased to hear you have you 2nd jab appointment, Meg … not too long to wait either.
Hi
My second is booked for May 17th.
Hoping to get it sooner.
Good news you have a date Swimmy, that will soon come around.
This is my arm after my second AZ jab last Saturday. It’s bruised as you can see & aches a lot. I never had this reaction with the first jab - I wonder why this is?

That looks nasty Carol
I hope your arm feels better soon, have you tried ice in a tea towel…
I have my ice pack in the freezer ready and waiting for Thursday when I have my second vaccination.
I will also make sure my arm hangs limp as instructed by a Doctor I know and to give my arm a good massage after the vaccination .
I’m going for my 2nd jab today it was scheduledfor May but they brought it forward…I’m a bit wary because of a reaction to the first one …fingers crossed.
That looks nasty Carol
It’s a nuisance when that happens but simply: it’s just bad luck.
Our body is criss-crossed with arteries and veins, some of which are very small.
Nick one with a needle as you’re being vaccinated and it bleeds so that you end up with a bruise, like you’ve got.
This is from the government’s info. sheet for the AZ vaccine regarding side effects:
"Very Common (may affect more than 1 in 10 people)
- tenderness, pain, warmth, itching or bruising where the injection is given"
I hope that gives you a bit of reassurance though I know myself from experience that it’s a bit of a nuisance.
The niggly ache doesn’t usually last beyond a few days.
That looks painful Carol … as Meg has said, a cold compress will ease the pain. I hope your arm will feel better soon.
The different reactions to the AstraZenenca are quite interesting I was talking to a lady in her 80s who had her first dose the same day as me.
She has absolutely no reaction whatsoever, she can’t even tell where the injection site is, on the other hand I know exactly where the injection site is because it hurts slightly though there is no visible sign of bruising.
BTW another case of blood clotting reported today - a woman in her 40s. That is two cases in 700000 injections.
Ooh that looks painful Carol !
I have had a few red arms after a flu jab, but not that red! If it doesn’t fade in a couple of days I would ask a doctor if that is a normal reaction… but I am sure it is nothing to worry about!
Just show it to your family & they will make the cups of tea, instead of you!
We weren’t due for our second AZ jab until Thursday next week. Just before lunch the doorbell rang and there was the nurse on the doorstep ready to give it to us. She had come early as Wales is relieving lockdown a bit. WOW!
Same with us. I didn’t feel a thing but V had a bruise and a sore injection point for a few days afterwards. We got a phone call this morning inviting us along for our 2nd jabs on the 24th. Can’t wait.
Mrs LD having her second jab tomorrow, We were getting a bit concerned because it is eleven weeks since the first but they have kept to the plan. Mine booked for June.
I think the vaccination centres are doing a fantastic job.
Hope all goes well for Mrs LD tomorrow and she feels the huge relief after at having had both vaccines, LD.
I have nothing but high praise for the vaccination centres, they have put in such a lot of hard work getting our country so well vaccinated beyond belief.
Yes they are doing a great job. Took my partner to a centre today for her second jab. Long queues but rapid turnover. Took about 35 minutes.
