Corrie

I feel pulled in two ways over this - Paul shouldn’t have said it, it’s an outdated expression but I do think Lloyd’s daughter fanned the flames. I don’t mind derogatory expressions being challenged on soaps but I hope they think to air scenes showing that the slurs go both ways and not just from white people to black.

It’s a mistake making 2 friends fall out too, most friends when taken aback by a phrase will explain to their friend while they don’t think they are racist perhaps they should not use that phrase these days not shout racist in their faces in public.

An apology would have been enough to placate Lloyd who has taken the moral high ground.

I think Lloyd is on shaky ground anyway when he calls his night radio operator Fat Brenda, hardly a nice way to refer to anyone.

Wasn’t Paul supposed to be leaving? And I know I read it! What a long drawn out departure plan, if so. Just go!

Also agree about Fat Brenda name calling, but wouldn’t it be a good idea to introduce her to the show?

Did anyone else notice the new extra in the knicker factory? A fella checking items, through the window of Carla’s office.

I also used to notice the extras walking about in the surgeries of Doctors, but never mentioned as being on the staff, or taking part in meetings, etc. how strange…

I don’t think it’s strange at all.

They have to have extras to make it look real but can’t have them contributing to conversations etc unless they were to introduce them as characters.

Agreed. I really wanted Eileen to get her man but he’s such a miserable mare.

They also have to pay them more if they speak so cheaper to have them stay silent but noticeable

Oh well, it looks like it is the end for Hayley.

Of course nothing is certain, but they don’t drop a bombshell like that for it to be a false alarm - plus, the actress is leaving I believe.

Lol, Soaps making folks consider such dilemmas.

Aye Spitfire, but in certain cases they do reflect real life situations.

The term “play the white man” which was what Paul said, is/was a term which means to be honest, decent and trustworthy, as if all white people are, and that people of any other colour skin is not, so it was a derogatory term.

Aw, I hope Hayley doesn’t leave as she and Roy are the best comedy duo on the show these days.

Hayley is leaving Mollie, so maybe the comedy will have to be played out between Roy and his mother.

She must want to leave in a hurry given how fast she’s being seen to the Weatherfield Health Service! GP rings you before you’ve even got home from your scan and then - manages to get you a cancelled appointment for the Monday!

:lol:Very true  If only life was like that.

Aw, well that is a shame as Hayley has been very much involved in the programme, but I do love the Roy/Sylvia banter as well.

I must commend the acting of Julie Hesmondhalgh and David Neilson tonight. That ending had my wife in tears and I must say I was rather moved myself.

I have seen loved ones suffer from Cancer and Coronation Street is portraying it very well so far.

So many people have died from Pancreatic Cancer (Patrick Swayze, Barbara Orbison & Luciano Pavarotti to name a few) and more needs to be done to increase the survival rates.

I agree, but does anyone find it a bit strange that Roy’s character is using a laptop? He’s not portrayed as someone who would embrace technology!
(Ok, I know it’s only a soap, but just musing…)

If you met me Ania, you’d be shocked I own a CD player let alone a laptop!!

Not at all he has looked up train timetables and researched trains and bats on his computer (out of sight mostly) for years.

That’s what I thought.
