Born sceptic as I am, I think they are intended to make us buy newspapers. I’m not saying the situation isn’t serious, it is but the only thing reporters worry about is selling their stories. They would sell their own Grandmothers.
Sad- but true!
At my age I don’t mind the odd wrinkly…What’s the going rate?
Sometimes I think the internet, BBC and the rest of the media are doing more damage than the virus ever will…
Unless you walk around poking your nose and sucking your thumb I doubt that touching stuff is the preferred way that the virus spreads. Wash your hands by all means, I wash them every time I arrive home after touching handrails and Tesco trolleys. There are some very nasty strains of bacteria lurking around every corner but viruses are rare and can only be deposited by an infected person.
So unless one of the 500 or so infected persons in the UK has gobbed on a trolley handle and it somehow finds it’s way up your nose, you don’t need to worry…
However, if that infected person has coughed, sneezed or spoken to you and you have inhaled a small droplet of water containing the virus, all the hand washing in the world will not prevent you from being infected.
True!
;-)…Cheers Tiff…It’s taken me over an hour to catch up on this thread, and it’s made me Paranoid…
Just a gentle reminder. If you ever should need to use a barbeque grill to cook your food, for goodness sake do so OUTDOORS. Those B-B-Q grills give off carbon monoxide which is deadly when used in a confined space. Better safe than dead.
Me too, I have a headache now.
OGF, no need to be paranoid. As much as possible just begin self isolation… now. The fewer trips you make, to the grocery, pharmacy, etc, the safer you will be.
Thanks bakerman, but I’m a bit of a hermit already…
Nine toilet rolls (quilted of course). :-p
This mornings news.
What I feared would happen, has happened. San Diego County is in full panic mode. The Tv news showed thousands of people standing in line waiting for 3 hours to enter the large grocery outlets. Once inside, the shelves are all but empty. No meat, canned goods, bread, cereal, or toilet paper. Only a few odds and ends remained.
I fear the panic buyers more than I do the actual virus.
Just listening to a ( very ) patience doctor explaining what precautions to take to a bunch of numpties on LBC .
Goodness me some people are so thick .
common sense is not taught by parents and schools anymore!
The doctor ( like me) doesn’t support the closing of schools .
Children are vectors best keep them in school .
Plus they mostly get it very mildly from the advice.
As long as they don’t visit their grandparents…
A few years old this article.
The PCR test is prone to mis-identification and contamination errors as it relies on growing such a tiny amount of viral fragment sample and can only produce qualitative results not quantitative, meaning that it cannot indicate whether or not a person has enough virus in them to get sick…
The antibody test if carried out correctly (as this test is frequently prone to errors) has the same problems in that it can only produce qualitative results. It can only tell if the person tested has antibodies for the specific virus. This would at least indicate that the person had at one time contracted the virus. However, it cannot tell whether or not the person presently has enough of the virus to get sick or have any virus in them at all.
Thus in both cases highly questionable results have been used to indicate sickness and disease.
Later today Pres. Trump will sign the National Emergency Act. This will free up tens billions of dollars to be used to combat the virus. This will be in addition to the 8 billion already released by Pres. Trump.
Can this virus spread via the wind or be carried by birds, etc;?
