Coronavirus

Someone I don’t know what thread it was said could the virus have been around for a while ?
I have just spoken to my son who told me he was quite ill some weeks back.
He went to the Dr ( and he is not one to go to the drs unless he’s really bad ) and he said he had all the symptoms of C virus . The dr had the symptoms on his wall.
He mentioned this and the dr ( typical ah ) said have you been to China ?
No said my son but I did some work for a Chinese couple just a few days ago .
The dr ignored this .
I bet he wouldn’t do this today .
Anyway there is no real treatment ,drink water and take paracetamol.

No worries there my kids rarely visit me anyway

In Ireland they seem to have a different view of how to deal with children being vectors. It’s beyond me why we don’t close schools other than the inconvenience to parents and the economy. Children are spreaders and do not practice social distancing :

Hi

Childcare, simple as that.

If they are at home looking after their kids they are not working in the NHS.

I’ve just read an ITV News item about ‘herd immunity’. I can see how it would be expected to work but how many older, vulnerable people would be expected to suffer as a result? Apparently this has been known to work in the past with other diseases. I can remember some of these childhood illnesses, when children almost tried to catch it from others so they didn’t have associated problems when they were older.

"When a contagious disease passes through a population in high numbers a sufficiently high proportion of individuals become immune to the disease, slowing the infection’s potency.

Herd immunity is how vaccinations work; essentially it creates a protective shield around the community and helps to safeguard those who are more vulnerable.

For example, if someone with measles is surrounded by people who have all been vaccinated against measles, the disease quickly disappears again as there is no one to pass it on to."

Similar news item on Sky News:

I don’t know about birds but pets can carry the virus on their fur coats if they have come into contact with a virus carrier. Probably not the best idea to put your face in their fur.

That is true but it’s a vicious cycle. If more NHS workers get infected through our darling spreaders then we end up in the same place but with a poorer outcome all round. Short termism is a big disease in UK planning.

This is a bit like getting rid of the measles vaccine and then encouraging children to go and catch measles in order to gain herd immunity. Madness IMO. The doctor on LBC also said it was a “tricky” strategy.

How many parents would chuck away immunisations and go for this approach with their kids? If not then why would we want to risk the same with our elderly?

Well, let’s face it according to some the elderly have fulfilled their ‘useful purpose’ in life so are dispensable. Many on OFF are in this category, myself included, and we have all read of the problems of ‘too many pensioners’, this would appear on the face of it to be an easy answer. :frowning:

My friend who is a nurse has a brother who has been told to self isolate as he has symptoms, he has terrible underlying conditions such as heart failure and type one diabetes so naturally she is very worried for him.

Then I had a phonecall from my best friend to tell me her 36 year old son has been sent home from worth feeling poorly and with a temperature so he’s in self isolation and just now I’ve had a phonecall from my niece to tell me the school have told her that her 11 year old daughter who has developed a cough (no temperature though) needs to be isolated.

All this in one day, I suspect we are going to hear more and more things like this. What a worry.

My manager was due to fly to Benidorm on Sunday but I’ve just seen on the net that they are closing bars and restaurants down in Benidorm so I don’t think she will go, I really don’t want her to go because I don’t want her to get stranded over there!

I wish we could all go to bed tonight and wake up from this surreal nightmare.

My OFF family, stay safe and healthy.

Love yas!

I would like to sleep til it was over & wake to find it gone too.:frowning:

It is a worry … time for a group hug.

Bets to keep them in school then not roaming about spreading disease.

they spread to each other in school then spread to parents and friends and relatives of parents. else we’d have to send em to boarding school. Now that’s an idea…

Tongue in cheek corona humour?

Funny how quick hugging starts to be alarming and every child under ten starts to resemble a ballistic missile.

Nadine Dorries’ mum has it. I’ve just seen it online.

Anyone watching the C4 special (UK)? They were explaining Herd Immunity, now he’s talking about having enough ventilators and Dr’s having to make ‘difficult decisions’ about who gets one.

I wouldn’t be surprised to find later that people paid (or went private) in order to secure one if they or their family ended up in that situation. Be interesting to see how many of the rich and famous survive it compared to those who can’t afford to offer to go private to secure treatment.

In the long run all of us get infected, become more or less ill, and acquire immunity. If the virus mutates and returns for a next bout, next year say, we will be partly immune against the mutated virus.
A similar cycle as with the flu will develop.
Don’t forget the flu kills more oldies than corona.

Isn’t all this just speculation though?

They haven’t really established for a fact even whether people can be reinfected or not.
