Coronavirus

well said. :023:

Nothing more to add really except good luck to all of Us oldies,do what You’re advised to do,give help to Those who can’t help Themselves re’ food shopping etc’,stay away from crowded places… organise Your wills etc’ if You haven’t done so already, and I hope We’re all still posting on here come the Autumn.xx

There are some arrogant idiots out there. That’s worrying.

Swimmy  at this time I feel that is the only weapon we have but like all available measures it will have a cost but hopefully, in time we will look back and realise the advise we have been given was correct.

A very sensible Professor on Newsnight last night said the ideal situation would be to round up the elderly and vulnerable and put them on a Scottish island while the rest of the population the most of whom will have mild symptoms build the immunity but of course that isn’t possible so we have to do the best we can .

For those sceptics who think some are overreacting they would be wise to start taking this situation seriously.

We have seen nothing yet, 27 millon people in the US don’t have health insurance (illegal immigrants in the US are not included in that sum ) and they will not seek medical attention anyway for fear of deportation. I shudder to think what will happen in the US when the virus peaks :-(.

I understand Italy is days away from the total collapse of its health system and they are already having to ‘prioritise treatment’ in other words decide who to save and who will die. Hopefully the measures being taken here will avoid that sharp peak so we are not faced with a similar situation.

I am worried too, I live alone with my dog. I worry about them being left with a dead body if I got it . I have a younger family member left but he’s not that healthy himself and does work in a situation where he is exposed to ‘general public’ (so any customer who goes in could be carrying it and he wouldn’t know).

I worry if he went before me as he’s the one who helps me get about when I need to go somewhere in a car or who would bring me food if I couldn’t get it online (if things got really bad and loads of delivery drivers etc were self isolating).

I have to admit to thinking of getting the moving boxes out of the shed last night and packing some stuff up incase I died so he (or whoever else was having to clear my house) wouldn’t have so much stuff to sort through!

but of course on the other hand I’m only just over 50 and I had been doing well getting back to semi-mobile (apart from this last flareup setting me back a bit).

There’s also still a part of me hoping once the weather warms up the arthritis symptoms will at least calm down and my knees won’t be so damn painful! I’d still like to be able to manage shorter walks with an all terrain walker (to get dog to nearest field, especially if we may have power cuts further down the line) so have one part of my brain telling me I should prepare incase I die from this and the other wanting me to prepare for improving my mobility over the summer incase there’s still a chance I might get to at least live long enough to see my dog’s life out…but also do I want to be the one ‘left behind’ if my last blood relative passes before I do from this as our parents passed years ago?

There are going to be alot more people with mental health issues by the time this is all over for those left who got through it!

The problem for governments is that if they act decisively to successfully fend off the pandemic and recession they they will get no credit because there was no pandemic or recession.

No one appreciates what didn’t happen - all that will happen is that people will whinge that the precautions taken weren’t necessary and the government over reacted.

Personally I think the pollies are on a hiding to nothing and should just allow the medical experts to take over and make decisions. That would be better for everyone.

Oh yes, the Royal Easter Show has been cancelled, the first time since WWII

Mr Potatohead has tested positive for Corona

Hi

I am now 68 and with health issues.

I am being careful, but not stupid.

I was a Nuclear, Chemical and Biological Officer for many years.

I know about the Protocols, I was part of the system before I was moved over to more urgent things after 9/11.

If I thought the advice were are being given was wrong I would be the first one screaming.

We are very fortunate to have both our Chief Scientist and Chief Medical Officer who know their stuff and treat us like adults.

They are very impressive people and have absolutely no fear of Politicians.

They tell it as it is.

I am no idiot, I know the Science and the reality, having worked on the Frontline.

Those two got to the top simply on ability.

We are very lucky to have them.

They are not stooges and will most certainly not be moved by Political Necessity.

Today,s headlines. “Many loved ones will die”
Are these sort of headlines helping? we know we are to take precautions but to read headlines like this is like pronouncing a death sentence on most of we oldies.
This could very well bring an early demise to some who are of a very weak nature.
I like to think I am fairly strong willed but headlines like this is frightening.

BB  there is a specific purpose to those headlines , they are intended to shock and make people realise the seriousness of our situation.

Susan even if you get it it doesn’t mean you are going to die .
The media is concentrating on those who die but many people have recovered too.

Well said…I don’t know why BoJo bothered to turn up spluttering, stuttering and scaring the hell out of Us Older Folk…it should just have been left to the professionals who know what the hell They’re talking about.

Well John Ashton is also an expert in public health and he disagrees with the way things are being done. Jeremy Hunt used to be head of the Department of Health and he also disagrees. It seems that all the experts and experienced politicians have different views. People will end up making their own arrangements based on their individual circumstances. If they want to delay the virus then they should be advising those who can to work from home and telling people to distance themselves physically in public. This is the advice in other countries and would be very sensible. We have the technology to reduce the risk out there.

Deleted.

Thanks thats reassuring. I watched the speech on BBC2 yesterday when they first came out to make the speech. I can see why they are wanting to delay things like the self isolation and social distancing for the vast majority. Though tbh I’ve been living a more socially- isolated lifestyle myself for years, that part doesn’t bother me!

It’s the fact I’m dependant on other people being able to get to their jobs so my food shop still gets delivered, so my dog still gets what they need, that people still get to work who operate our utility services so I always have electricity to run my scooter or cook the frozen or tinned food I have.

I guess at least if they do manage to ‘flatten the curve’ so our peak doesn’t come until warmer weather we won’t freeze to death cos no one has heating! Maybe I should just buy myself a little BBQ for the summer to cook meals on!

but I hope they are right and their advice enables the country to keep running I mean… we got through 2 world wars! …when there was not half the technology and gadgets there are now!

I think it was a thoughtless and hurtful thing to say. That is what the headlines are highlighting. It has just upset and alarmed people far more than they already were.

yes I know but despite been on the ‘younger side of older’ I am in the vulnerable group due to more than condition being immune system related. It would only need one person who didn’t know they had it to visit or come into contact with me.

The median age for complications/severe cases in China has been given by an expert as 47-49. So it’s not just oldies.

Susan

Please don’t think you are doomed, we all have to think positive. If you are worried about your dog, why not join the RSPCA ‘Home for life’ scheme? It’s a good idea anyway.

News headlines are never helpful. They love to over dramatise everything, even when it is already dramatic to start with.
