Coronavirus

My point was that it was a joint account zulieka!
If we had seperate accounts l assumed she would then be within
the limits for a claim?
We also own our own home outright, so l suppose it l pop off
first she must sell it or use it to fund her existance and thus
destroy any assets we were hoping t leave to our kids?
Yet it seems commonplace for the wealthy to be able to pass down
their assets and also to wangle state assistance when their
affairs go blox up? Branson and Green are prime examples of this
as they seem to expect special treatment!!
I agree my wife is correct in her decision but it seems unfair that
others who have either never contributed or have never put a bit
by are able to access assistance?

Donkeyman!

The West Australian Government has moved to implement its harshest border restrictions yet, as it tries everything to stop coronavirus spreading within the state.

It will be the first time WA has ever closed its borders to the east.

From midnight Sunday (well, 11:59pm to be precise) there will be restrictions on every person entering the state, regardless of their residency.

While the new laws will primarily target those who aren’t WA residents, Mr McGowan said the regulations must apply to everyone equally.

The Government has received constitutional legal advice that prohibits it from implementing laws discriminating people based on their home state.

Quite an interesting chart, the only nations doing really well and slowing the rate of infection are Singapore, Japan and Taiwan.

Because every country is at a different stage in their infection this graph moves all to the same starting point in time - when they reported their 100th case. NOTE: the vertical scale is logarithmic.

They say culture plays a big part in whether to lockdown. The Swedes consider themselves more mature than us. The Japanese think their culture of conformity and duty will prevent them spreading the virus. Both countries have no lockdown. Japan has a very low rate. Is it down to a collective sense of responsibility and respect for others? Do we lack that here?

I’d say:

YES, and

YES - sadly.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has requested, and received, 100,000 body bags from The Pentagon.

Things are definitely not looking good.

However, even for the oldest people, there is still hope. In the U.S., a 104 yr old man has recovered from Covid-19.

Hi

So many different testing and response regimes it is difficult to compare.

Here in the UK we are not testing, even new arrivals.

We are not cantact tracing either.

Compare this to others, such as Taiwan.

You cannot get into your apartment building without having your temperature checked.

Any raised temp and you are in enforced lockdown with food delivered and twice daily checks.

Your mobile is monitored and god help you if you venture out.

The economy is still operating, unlike ours.

Hi

A sensible way of doing things.

Garden Centres are shut.

Locally we have veg growers who have plants, all sorts of herbs and veg.

They are small independents who have eggs as well.

Timed Honesty Boxes.

You say what you want, put the money in an envelope and it will be on the table at the gate for you.

No Social Contact at all

Commonsense rules.

Ordinary, I would be violently opposed to such draconian measures. But these are not ordinary times. Hundreds of thousands of lives are at stake. Most people will do what is best for society. But, there is always going to be a certain percentage of the population that refuses to obey. They must be dealt with by any means necessary , up to and including arrest.

Hi

We are a bit basic around here.

Many local families with elderly parents.

The Police are overwhelmed, so sod them, life is a bit brutal.

A druggie versa a Scaffolder or a Brickie.

Nobody bothered before, they do now.

A sign of the times.

Society will come out of this a better place to be.

Could it be you are witnessing devolution Brucy?
Maybe you buggers in the east have pissed off the the westerners
by trying to burn the continent down?

Donkeyman!

I guess that’s why we have a nanny state…Perhaps some people prefer it this way?

I was sent this today and it really does seem authentic. I would suggest we all practice this:

684 people died today we have now passed Spain.

It will just keep getting worse because there are still some people not taking lockdown seriously. Plus there are people not being careful enough with hygiene and disinfection. It only takes one person in a household to ignore the rule to spoil it for everyone and contaminate a property.

I believe it’s down to the fact that much of our society has become irresponsible because of a lack of consequences.

I agree. We are our own worst enemies.

50 years ago, everyone - well, at least the vast majority - had a sense of responsibility.

Not necessarily Annie, I believe that people have been walking around with the virus undetected, for a long time before it became apparent and still are…

We have a department and there are 4 maintenance men in there, back in November or just before Christmas I can’t right remember now, 3 of them became very poorly with flu like illnesses and had to take time off work, the 4th never got ill or displayed any symptoms, that man is now wondering if the virus was around then and that he was a carrier. I guess we’ll never know, but then, perhaps it was just the normal flu. 2 of them had a really bad cough. They all got better I’m happy to say.
