Chit Chat Thread (Part 2)

Worth a try then, let us know how you get on…

I understand the battery on my new Samsung Tab is not removable. Hmmm. So what happens when it no longer holds a charge? I have to chuck it?

I know I have taken the old iPhone to a specialist shop where the battery was changed. But I do think both the Samsung phone and the iPad could do with theirs changed, if at all possible.

I changed the battery myself on my old Samsung Tab, and my old Samsung phones (a J5 and a J3) were very easy batteries to change, but apparently in my latest phone, a Samsung A12, the battery is not replaceable, which I find rather annoying…

Just watched some YouTube clips. Blimey, in some parts it was like watching paint dry!

Just also gone onto a home service website for phone battery replacement charge. Came up as £99. I think at that price it would be cheaper just to replace my phone.

My LG Stylo 5 has the stupid battery made into it. Battery goes so does phone. I was really angry when I discovered this. Then I learned Apple has always glued their batteries in to keep anyone, but Apple from working on them.

When searching to find out about replacing mobile phone batteries, I found this on YouTube which you may find useful, especially as you’ve changed batteries previously:

Out of curiosity I was also checking cost of an authorised Apple replacement of the battery on my iPhone, this cost I thought reasonable at £49.

Thanks Baz, but the A12 is very new so hopefully it won’t be an issue for a year or two yet… :+1:

:023: Let’s hope that is the case, it was only that I found the instructions
to do what you believed was not possible, that led me to post the link.

Morning folks.

I’m still undecided on my Samsung phone battery. It runs down so quickly so guess it really needs replacing. But do I attempt myself, or try and find somewhere reasonable? Keep meaning to phone Timpsons in the town, see what they will charge, but first I have all my photos and files to back up. (Oh, Amazon haven’t got the battery and kit in stock, so wonder if phone repair shops will also have that problem?)

What model phone is it Jan?

Good morning all.
Weather here is again overcast and cold.
Done the morning stroll around the field.
My friend came here early and also had an early phone call from my Dr about having an injection in my hand. This is scheduled for early morning next Thursday. And he will also give me the flue jab.
The battery for the iPad is not very expensive. The only problem could be if one breaks the glass. But this can also be bought and not expensive.
No immediate plans to do this yet.

Just a thought Jazzi that might help. Recently I replaced a seven-year-old iPhone with a new one, just before I did that there was a software upgrade. As usual I allowed that upgrade as often it’s for security reasons. However, it was also quite a big upgrade. After that I noticed the battery was running down very quickly. As I was getting the new iPhone I did not think about that too much. On getting the new one I again noticed the battery was getting run down very quickly, considering it was brand new and wasn’t used that much. Then I found out the new software, the same as I had upgraded the old phone to, was different in that the ‘Off’ switch’ was kind of dual-purpose. It had to be turned off by pressing it after use but that was a kind of ‘sleep’ mode as it would still receive calls, texts etc. What I had been doing was leaving it ‘on’ full all the time, hence the battery running down so quickly. That was how the previous software upgrade worked which explained why the battery on the old phone was running down so quickly, it was being left permanently ‘on’. Your phone might be the same so worth checking perhaps?

Barry, Galaxy A5 (2017).

Baz, my phone always goes to sleep and I need to enter the pin to get in each time. Do you mean the physical switch on the side I need to use?

Yes, that is the one, it’s an iPhone though so might be different to your Samsung. Say for instance when there’s a call the phone comes out of sleep mode automatically, when the call’s finished I then have to press that switch to put it back into sleep mode otherwise it’s on as if I wish to use it again. Just a thought as the previous phone with an older operating system was totally different, this foxed me at first but when I found out about it, that explained why the battery was running down so quickly as I was leaving it ‘on’ all the time. When it’s in sleep mode just picking the phone up will display the time and date for a second but it remains in sleep mode. (To ‘wake’ the phone I have to key in the pass code.) Probably this option, like the ‘dual-action’ switch on the side is to actually save the battery running down. They’re very clever these phones!

I had an idea just now. I plan on going to Norwich on Monday (Holly is booked with day carer) so tried a couple of places there. One answered, saying it would cost £40 (about right, I think). He will phone his supplier and get back to me, to see if it is in stock and how long (about 2 days he thinks). Providing the dog carer can change the day, if need be, if I have to wait a day or two for the battery to reach them, I can.

Thanks Baz.

:023: You are welcome, hope you can get the battery sorted anyway.
:grinning:

Well I just phoned the repair shop again, after my dog walk, having given them a couple of hours, and he promised a call back in 5 minutes, after chasing the supplier. I am still waiting.

With it now being after 2pm, I can’t see the shop having the battery in on Monday, in time for my planned trip. I might try my local Timpson’s again, see if they answer this time!

He has ordered the battery (he phoned a few hours ago) and he hopes it will arrive in tomorrow’s post, and should phone me. If I don’t hear from him I will call the shop. If it’s not there tomorrow I will change my planned day for the trip.
