Morning everyone hot here too, and chance of thunderstorms after lunch they say, but by golly the garden needs it.
After a day stripping the brakes down on my Astra I now have to go out and try to get some spare parts, before cooking bacon and broad beans on toast for lunch. No other plans as yet so I might just enjoy watching it rain for a couple of hours.
Good morning all.
Very hot and humid here. I can see a build up of the clouds that are heading this way.
So donāt know what I shall be doing. I just hope my daughter donāt drag me out into this coming wet weather. She does not study the sky like I do.

Had to get Holly to an OOH vet this afternoon, but thank goodness I did. They found an inch long grass seed in her eye. She had been pawing at her face, and trying to rub along carpets so I called someone and they said I could go. It was about a half hour drive, worth the time taken out of a somewhat busy schedule (always busy when you are going away). A credit card bill of £265 but I will start a claim.
Thankfully she is nicely settled now and has no further irritation. They gave her two injections, of an anti inflammatory and anti histamine. 6 Piritons to take away, and eye drops. The vet noticed her face was red, with a slight soreness around the eye and that was weeping a bit. When she went to administer a drop she noticed the foreign body and pulled out the grass seed out the back, with nurse helping.
So, so glad I took her. Her carer cannot drive and wouldnāt even be able to get her to our vet, which needs a car.
I have some dog biscuits to collect, which I will do before the shop closes and on her last walk, I have a burger to cook, with some chips from takeaway yesterday. Tomorrow I will go somewhere nice for a meal after she has been dropped off.
@Jazzi
Grass seeds are a danger to dogs eyes , only said to my son to keep Ellie out of the long grass because of exactly whats happened to Holly .
Im so glad it was noticed and you took her to vets , we have to work out whats wrong , whether its something mild or something that needs attention right away , you took the right decisionā¦
Glad shes on the mend now ā¦
Thanks Eliza. Iāve not had to make a claim for a good few years now. I am always checking her paws for these seeds, but never thought it would get in an eye. When I took her for a wee wee walk when we got home her nose was straight in some weeds!! I will need to watch her more carefully now.
Not sure what caused her to do this, or whether it was guzzling a lot of water in the bedroom, but she decided to do a wee on the rug by the back door, instead of telling me she needed to go out. She was fidgeting, up and down the stairs and panting, so I took her down at 12.30, and noticed it. I have a bottle of Dr Beckmann cleaning fluid so sprinkled that on the patch and brushed it in. Too late for getting down on hands and knees with a bowl of water and cloths.
So itinerary for today is something like this.
Fold up washing after breakfast, start putting some in my case.
10am. Drop Holly at her carer. Talk to him about yesterday.
On to Morrisons.
Home to unpack shopping.
Apply flea spray around the house.
Meet sis at Harvester at 1. She has reached 25 years service with Sainsburys so as I planned on eating lunch out anyway, asked if she wanted to join me, said Iād treat her.
Home to finish packing.
Good morning all.
I am always checking Minnieās paws for all sorts of things when we get back from walks.
But nowadays she donāt walk much.
I take her onto the field and do a fast walk myself, just keeping an eye on her as she strolls along. Some mornings I have to carry her back home.
The weather does not look too promising today, so not really got anything planed. I will just let it happen.
Sorry to hear about Holly Jan, those seeds can be a bugger this time of year but the expense to remove one seems quite obscene! Having said that a friend down the road took her GSD to the vets and they extracted (under general anaesthetic) a four inch piece of straw from his nose and charged her £580!
Oscar seems to have a problem too, I went to lift him into the sink as usual after our walk and he screamed in pain when I touched his chest, so we need to get him looked at at the vets tomorrow as wellā¦
Our neighbour seems to have a leaky pipe under the sink but it is below floor level, so I advised him to contact his Homeserve insurance and let them deal with it rather than us try to dig it out and make a bad job worse, particularly on a Sunday.
Iām making beetroot soup this morning for lunch as we seem to have a bit of a glut at the moment, so looking forward to trying it as I havenāt made it before.
Will do Jan. We have some Gaberpentin (pain meds) left over from when Alfie was in pain, so weāve managed to get one of those down him and will try to get another down him at teatime. Meanwhile he is having a quiet day, at the moment just laying in the border feeling sorry for himselfā¦
Good morning everyone, sunny here too but heavy showers forecast again for this afternoon.
Iām chopping a couple of dead cherry trees down this morning for my neighbour, and one of our sons will then collect the logs for his wood burner so thereāll only be the twigs to take to the tip.
Many thanks for asking, Oscar is a little livelier this morning, we can only think that he must have sprained something when he jumped out of the car after our walk yesterday morning. He is eating and toileting OK so weāll just go a few days without a walk to give him time to recover, and I donāt think the vet will be seeing us unless Oscar deteriorates again, but boding well at the moment.
Good morning all.
I will also ask, how is Oscar today.
As a pain killer, the vet gave me Calpol for Minnie. The infant one, 1.5mil at a time @£17, not including the consultation charge. I bought more @ £3.75
Now for the weather forecast here. Very nice.
Off to Sainsburys shortly,
Then the rest of the day is mine to do whatever.
Have a nice holiday to those that are having one.
Did I tell you that I am going to Romania? Yes thatās right, Re main here.
