@Jazzi , Have you tried a sqeaky toy or a whistle for Recall with Holly ,when she returns give her a treat , if she is rewarded this may work , If I shout treat then Ellie returns for this , or wheres your ball ,she loves to play with a ball .
I was awake earley this morning 2.30 , so put my Chicken in the slow cooker ,
@Bathsheba Ive had 3 Labs 2 who lived to 12 and 13 and Ellie is now 11,but my longest living dog was a cross Lurcher a Rescue who lived to 15…
Sending a big Hug to Connie , hope she reigns for a lot longer…
Good morning all, just about to go to the forest for our walk and I’ve got some more blackcurrants to pick later, but no other plans apart from keeping cool and out of the midday sun…
Eliza, she only gets a treat when I am leaving her for shopping/visiting. I try to minimise how often she gets one, for her tummy. Maybe one day I will try that. She does know the word!
Not sure what I will end up doing today. Still got a few pages left of my book so no trip to the library just yet, and one more book left to read. If I still fancy that one.
Good morning all.
When I woke up at 0700, there was a loverly blue sky. Now it is overcast and not a sign of the blue.
Just done my short hobble on the field with Minnie.
Laundry in dryer.
Plans for today. Hair trim and bath for Minnie.
She is 16, and that is the oldest any of my other dogs that I have had.
Morning all, gosh we’re in for another hot one today Granddaughter’s swimming lesson this morning, then this afternoon we’re going to Looe to meet up with my brother and SiL who are down this way in their camper van. We’re taking our granddaughter with us - was going to take our daughter too, but she doesn’t have anyone to pop in to see Connie, and she really can’t leave her too long, especially not in this heat as she needs to have the door or a window open.
@carol how did Tony like the social group? Hope it went well and he can have that to look forward to on a regular basis.
@Eliza - wow seems as if you know how to keep your dogs going well into old age - 15 years! Connie doesn’t look as if she’s going anywhere soon, still likes a bit of a walk (not far now though, and very slow), still got a great appetite, and still gets excited and tries to jump up at us. She does have kidney disease, though, we know this, so my daughter buys her special low protein food, advised by the vet. This was her yesterday - 14 and not a grey hair in sight!!!
Today we are going to visit Ady & Paula in their new house. I also want to go to town - I’m looking for some white sandals.
@bathsheba it was only a small group - 7 people including us. They were nice & friendly but it wasn’t what I expected. Tony didn’t like it - he said he was bored stupid. They just drank tea & sat chatting about this & that but of course Tony didn’t join in - he can’t make conversation. He was spoken to by the organiser and managed to tell him about the time he kept poultry. That was the only time Tony spoke in 2 hours though. Next time we may go for just an hour…
That’s a shame it didn’t live up to your expectations @carol. I can see it wouldn’t be easy to immerse yourself in conversation with only 5 other people. A larger group might have drawn him in more.
Good morning all.
Looks like another hot day. I love this weather and you will not find me moaning about it.
Whilst on the subject on treats for the dogs, when I have to go out I give Minnie a gravy bone. She knows when I am about to go out, and is already waiting for it.
I don’t have any plans for today, so will just let it happen.
and a good morning from me ,
not a comfortable night with the heat trapped in the walls .
You know the thing i like about this forum is the laughs i get from it, there are some really witty replies .
And then theres the darker side , where some like to vent there hatred of certain polititian .thats not so nice .
I dont know if i shall ever vote again , I mean why bother when a couple of years down the line the knives come out in goverment and in the media and hounds your elected choice out . Rant over .
Well another scorcher today , and when Son as raced round the Nurburgring he will be heading back to UK.
A late good morning from me, rather remiss of me but I was short of time this morning as we wanted to get out for our walk and back again before it got too hot…
We were going to have a picnic today at Hardwick Hall but decided it would be too hot for Oscar, so we are picnicing at home instead under the shade of the malus tree… egg mayo sandwiches followed by strawberries and cream, yum yum…
We’ll be spending the day at home today - lots to do. I want to sort out & clean the fridge & two freezers.
Also do a bit in the garden & cook a roast beef dinner.
I’m not keen on tennis so won’t be glued to the TV.
Another scorcher today. We enjoyed our trip to Looe yesterday with my brother and SiL, but god it was hot! And I could not believe the number of stupid people walking around with their dogs - for heaven’s sake it was much too hot for them. I really wanted to say to some of the owners, “take your shoes off and see how you like walking in bare feet on these baking hot pavements!” Really annoys me.
We had our granddaughter with us, and she had some fun in the sea - no swimming costume because it was still wet from her swimming lesson, so she just went in and paddled in the shorts and t-shirt. I knew she’d dry off quickly in the sun!
Have a good day all
*well it was morning, just, when I started typing this
Good morning all .
Nothing planned here ,
A day at the Seaside sounds nice @Bathsheba ,I may look for somewhere in September when its quieter and dogs are allowed on the beach .
Hope you get a quiet day in the Garden @Jazzi , I use to hop on my Bike and cycle miles into the country lanes to get some peace and quiet from my neighbours.
Well have a wonderful day what ever you all doing . .
@Eliza, yes, I managed on and off in the garden, in between George Ezra and other music, sometimes it was quiet. Then as I sat quietly reading, heard him next door go out into the garden, seemingly talking to his kids on the phone, showing them something in his gf’s garden. He was saying proudly to them ‘it’s a quad bike!’ And mentioned going on the beach on it.
My ears pricked up. A what?!!! After finishing his call, he then switched it on briefly. You can imagine the noise! When it went quiet I sat there thinking ‘how on earth did (a) you manage to get a quad bike into the garden, and (b) how on earth will you get it out again. And (c) is it going to live in that garden permanently, bearing in mind it is his gf renting the house.
Just hope the police catch him one day, cos I’m sure they are not road legal.
Never a dull moment with them living next door. Well, he has his own place round the corner, him and his two youngest.
Morning all. I’ve given in and dug out my floaty sundresses - really too hot to wear anything else. I’m so glad we moved to Devon all those years ago. Early on we used to moan that it rarely got as hot here as it did in Essex where we’d moved from. But now I am so grateful - if I’m melting in 25deg, heaven knows how I’d cope with the hotter temps where I come from, where it’s forecast to peak at around 30 several days this week.
I shall be doing the bare minimum today, and spending much of my time sitting in front of a fan reading
Morning all, another scorcher forecast for here too, so I have no plans other than making a salad for lunch from out of the garden and keeping in the cool.
Good morning all.
It is already 27.2 c out so my weather station tells me.
I have been out and just done my walk as far as I can. When the knee starts to ache, I turn around and come back. The app on my phone says I have done 0.38 of a mile.
Nothing really planed, I must get the vacuum cleaner out and just do the lounge and stairs.
