During a conversation with someone today about the impending budget (which I understand will now be held on 26th Nov), and said that it feels as though this is the worst government I remember in my lifetime. At least since Callaghan’s winter of discontent perhaps. The country appears to be completely unravelling socially and economically with services falling apart and it seems every effort is being made to make everyone’s life a misery financially. I can’t remember a less happy time in the last 40 years.
Do you agree or do you think this is the best government since sliced bread? (NB soon sliced bread might only be available with a security tag at the supermarket!).
Or Heath’s three day week? it is just another in the long line of useless governments that the British people have voted in since the war. None have been particularly better or worse than the previous one.
You keep voting for the same useless type of people selected by the few and keep expecting a different result? When has Britain had a leader with a vision and the guts to carry it out? Never! You don’t need many every century but you do need at least one. All you get is the same ideology ruled non entities.
As long as Britain maintains the same first past the post and an unelected rabble in the upper house they will give you more of the same.
Everybody keeps saying if it ain’t broke don’t fix it or, we prefer the present system to any alternative. so expect more of the same poor governance and inevitable decline.
BTW Albo had it right when he said that the British government has a long time to turn things around. As he said Australia has only just had an election which returned his government in a landslide but the next British election is still to be held after the next Australian election.
Australian governments have a three year term compared to Britain’s five year term - that might be something to think on too.
I will doubtless be ostracised for saying this, but I was pretty happy during the Blair years. I had so many opportunities for work and play. Everything was affordable and there was a sense of hope and pride in the nation. People can say what they like about Blair, but economically, socially and politically those were the best years. Some here will feel the same about the Thatcher years. At the time I felt a great deal of improvements were made, but obviously we are still paying the price for some of her policies.
Since Blair left the mess has been accumulating, but nothing under the Tories was as bad as we have so far seen under this completely baffling version of Labour.
I have a friend who subscribes to this view. I would have to counter that this view is exactly what the ruling classes would like you to have. Nothing is more appealing to ruling classes than a population in chaos.
Can’t say I follow your logic there Annie - if more people thought like it then the ruling class may well find they’re in the middle of a French style revolution, again
With all in the world experiences increased % of Elders still alive it becomes a dilemma!
So Earth is overpopulated with humanity most likely by Billions. Old F___'s need a pill.
It’s sort of obvious that the world problem is the young girls need to lie down and get bedded.
Thats just a studies answer and meant for humor too!
it’s a shame because he was a very popular PM until that point. He was after all there for 3 terms. I have to say I didn’t like him at the time, but there was a positive feelgood factor in the country. I do think the “Cool Britannia” effort really was a thing and Britain was dragged into the modern world, increasing efficiency and effectiveness in business and making huge improvements to the NHS (which the Tories then spent years undoing).
I chat with tourists from UK and lots like him but yes angry about Iraq
Granted I do not ask if every tourists as only meet a tiny percentage but would not say you are in the minority
Edit , biggest complain I get is the high prices in UK ESPECIALLY energy prices and whether they seem to lean left or right that is the normal complaint
