Are you still able to work out/exercise?

I have a large garden that keeps me busy…I’ve never been good at organised keep fit or gyms I just do my own thing…which usually involves digging and mowing :slight_smile:

Im the same @summer , this morning I went round the garden loosening the soil , I do the digging in of plant and Shrubs any big pots i roll them into position , All good exercise for the musles and heart , if we dont use them we loose them as the saying goes .

Haven’t ice skate since about 2005 after my figure-skating blades were sharpened wrong and I took a bad fall onto my right hip. Then the rink closed due to bad management and a major mistake in construction of the floor for the rink, meant that earth would seep through.

I’m still hopeful to skate but people always look at me funny due to my skating stance.

I used to have a standing bike but one of my knees, injured in the 70s, is giving me pains so I gave it away.

Cycling was a mean of transport for many years in the summer and winter was cross-country skiing.

Bottom line, these past two decades my back pains are now worst. So I do fewer of the yoga poses. However, I’ve found Tai Chi which I add to my routines my moves learned in karate.

I’d love to get this machine to recreate cross-country skiing without the snow…Get a good cardio without the pains :relaxed:

I like a few good walks because I enjoy them but don’t exercise all that much since my brother and co-cyclist was unable to ride anymore. Not much fun riding without him. Nobody of comparable age was fitter than him in his 70s. We used to think we’d last forever if we kept fit …but he still ailed and died.

Unless exercise done for enjoyment, I wonder what the point of it is. Makes a person feel better while they are here perhaps but doesn’t necessarily lead to a longer life. I know some aged 80+ people who never exercise but still live happily on. I’m not going to want to go anytime, whether that’s tomorrow or a few more years down the line because I kept fit.

why have all that contraption to get fit??? all you need is being able to down a couple of pints a day to build up arm muscles

I must admit I’m still into that kind of exercise RS. Not everyday but keep fit enough to raise a full glass when the occasion arises.

I’d love to get back in the gym and get involved with some free weights, defo no squats…brutal!

Yes. I walk between one to two hours 6 days a week, do a bit of weightlifting and am starting up yoga again. It helps burn off some anxious energy and creates those feel good brain chemicals to make life more bearable.

I do a fair few paces.

Since my brother and I stopped riding our mountain bikes together some years ago (he died this year), I don’t exercise much.

I’m still lucky enough have a good walking pace and can walk for miles. I don’t walk fast for exercise’s sake. It’s just a natural pace where others keep telling me to slow down. Still ride a bike but it’s an e-bike these days. Always level 1 or 2 of assistance.

My fittest years were between 50 and 70 years old. I don’t really care that I’m not as fit as I was but only fit for my age. Nothing can stay the same forever.

I’ve been seriously thinking about getting back into the gym and lifting weights again. I regularly dream about it so it’s obviously on my mind.

I’ll just have to be sensible and accept that I can’t do what I used to do. I miss those barbell upright rows, for some reason one of my favourite exercises.

Cardio vascular has to be taken into consideration too, easy does it! I’m actually looking forward to mixing up those banana flavour whey protein shakes. I had a Nutribullet as a birthday present, still hasn’t been used in anger. I’ll be avoiding the creatine monohydrate this time round, probably not a healthy option :wink:

That struck a cord with me Mart. As most of you know, I have been a runner all of my life, completing marathons and ultra long fell runs. I could run all day, but as I passed 70 years old something happened. Over the next two years I found that I couldn’t keep a run going for more than half a mile at a time. I went to see a heart specialist and to cut a long story short, my heart was only 38% efficient. Apparently, at 30% you are classed as disabled.

It was a bitter pill to swallow, but I haven’t let it beat me. I walk and jog every day, and Thursdays and Sundays I do 15 miles on my bike as fast as I can. I also do a few other exercises for strength. So with meds, pacemaker/defibrillator and plenty of exercise I’m managing to keep some fitness, but I get tired with a vengeance these days and it’s always an early night for me…

My bedtime has gone from around midnight, a few years ago, to 9.45 p.m.

Anyway, I have had my exercise this morning. Went to the allotment to find my friends (who rent the plot) struggling with a whole heap of horse manure. It gets delivered to the top of the allotment area and has to be wheelbarrowed down the narrow bumpy paths to the manure pens that I built last year for the purpose. Must have barrowed about 15 lots of it to the pens.

A bit worried about the inguinal hernia op I had earlier this year but the stuff was dry, so not heavy. Still a degree of exercise though. I take an e-bike ride to the allotment to do something or other about 3 - 4 times each week.

Ahuh every day, by noon at the latest unless something happens.

Yes, I swim most days and walk the dog. Don’t go out with the clydesdales so much since my fall back in January, It’s a lot harder to mount up now but I did accompany my OH a couple of times during the autumn for a trek with them.

I have not ridden for a year as I have a back problem when I go fast and I like a lively ride .
I still walk the dog but he is not that well and can no longer do long walks
I have recently taken up Padel tennis which is a great sport .
