Might go back there today, and luxuriate in having the place to myself.
Sorry, for posting this thread.
Why itās more most expansive than your usual cryptic style
Iām sorry too Spitty
I must apologize for the crypticness whilst Iām at it.
Makes yer think dunnit?
No need to apologize Summer, unless you are walking whilst you type.
One more apology, sorry for the capital S.

We encounter quite a few bikes when we stroll the dogs. Thatās fine except that they are nearly silent and I canāt hear them coming. Why canāt they ring their bloody bikes??
In Newbury there are cycle lanes, through the town which is closed to traffic after 9 am I believe it is, there are cyclists, never had any problem with them, when I walk down the canal, they politely ring their bike bell if Iām in the way,
After reading this, I shall deck my bike out in fairy lights and bells so people can see and hear me coming a mile away. No apologies on either side but maybe a smile or two!
Here on the south coast, there are designated cycle lanes and shared pavements where I have been knocked over by a very abusive cyclist who carried on swearing at me as he sped off without helping me up. A following cyclist about 30secs behind the first, not only stopped but also called for assistance and the police. I am 78 and even with aids, I sometimes cannot hear approaching cyclists if heavy traffic is passing. To allow cyclists to use the footpath as well as pedestrians was always going to end up with injuries. I now ensure I always have my metal walking stick with me so I can jam spokes if Iām passed too closely!!
ā¦
I must admit, I stay in the right lane, also where I live we have a cycle lane and a pedestrian lane, unfortunately some pedestrians do walk in the cycle lane, sorry to hear of your unfortunate difficulties LD.
The only time I get annoyed is when the cyclist rides down the narrow pavements, where they should not be riding down, I know what you mean though, I encountered a guy who I know as a local, he made me jump into a busy road as he was coming down a hill on the narrow pavement.
I donāt think I would jam metal spokes as that too could be very dangerous, I would report to the police, or even take a small video phone out with me.maybe catch them on cameraā¦I donāt believe two wrongs make a right.
Maybe get one of these fitted to the Mountain Bike, nobody can miss this surely? They might not be quite as difficult then, they would be too busy looking for the source of the noise!
I can sympathise with you Spitty, I too am one of lifeās apologisersā¦and if someone rode a bicycle into me I would probably apologiseā¦
But by apologising first, most of the apologisees donāt take offence or get angry but are prepared to accept some of the blameā¦
What could have been an inflamed situation has now been defusedā¦
You know me Foxy @ 30000 paces a day (210000 per week nearly 1 million a month) I probably hold some sort of record in pedestrianism so, am entitled to observe fellow walkers, they need to get on a bike, give a walker a two metre free space, smile at them and still get a daggers stare, what is wrong with these people?
I apologize for having a moan.
Try putting a price of stiff card into your spokes so that it
rattles as your wheels rotate Spitty !!
We used to do that to our bikes when we were snotties !!
Donkeyman!
Or a Lolly stick DM.
Gonna have my cuppa tea, then going to get the Bike out and go miserable pedestrian spotting.
