I can see, you must have some type of zoom in, makes me want to go out and buy one…that robin one is absolutely excellent!..
I have one of these. Tried to get into proper photography but found that I could not retain anything I learned more than a few minutes thanks to my cancer treatment so I looked for something that was idiot proof. I would love to be able to take shots of the birds in flight but this is just not fast enough.
Nikon Coolpix P900 Review.
I threw some broken homemade seed balls into my neighbours garden and the squirrels decided this was for them.
Cute little bushy tailed squirrels…they are vicious though, I wouldn’t go near one.
We feed the birds. I used to make our own suet using lard, sunflower seeds, peanuts, niger seed, cranberries, millet, corn etc ….
We got blue jays, cardinals, nut hatches, chickadees, finches, grosbeaks, gunkos, cedar waxwings, woodpeckers ( downy, hairy ) mourning doves,
We get flycatchers, northern flickers, Baltimore orioles , robins, snowy owls, eagles, ravens, grackles, starlings, crows, red wing black birds, red tailed hawk, kestrels, wood ducks, loons, dove keys,
I’ve got some pictures ….
In the summer we get dozens of humming birds. They fight over the feeders and have the cutest sounds.
Wonderful photos of the birds, Bratti…
Great pictures Bratti .
Thank you ladies.
Super photo’s Bratti.
In my garden a Dunnock has staked a claim to this territory, even though I am not feeding the birds. He is singing in the Camellia & the Buddleia most afternoons if the weather is fine trying to interest his mate.
I bought so much mixed seed at one time, it ended up going mouldy in the feeder, yet like your birds, my elderly ladies birds will eat anything.
I put those suet pellets out, unless I shake them out of the feeder, they won’t touch them, not only are they enjoying their own selective dining, they are starting to expect dinner service as well,
Are those sparrows on the ground ,MR F…?
Yes they are, I can have three times that many on the ground.
I buy 25kg of this mixed seed open one bag and decant into plastic tubs which keeps it fresh. after a couple of days if there is anything left in the feeder I will empty that on the grass and natures vacuums, the pigeons will take care of it.
I also change and clean all feeders regularly, the squirrel feeder gets particularly dirty, I suspect personal hygiene is not something they care to much about.
Yes, I’ve read up on how important it is to keep the feeders in top tip condition ,I’ve always done that anyway.
Wow!!..you get through all of that seed, do you live in the country ?
I live in a wooded area, but it’s quite built up…I must say though, I am seeing more birds in my garden, the bird song early morning wakes me up, I absolutely love it,
Nope the suburbs of Edinburgh, its cheaper to buy in bulk which is why I get so much.
I know it’s cheaper to buy in bulk, we have a shop right near me, that sells wild bird food in bulk, they do a roaring trade.
My elderly lady, like you, has to top her feeders up every day…
I will buy in bulk, once I get many more birds into the garden…I think the main thing is, is to continually feed them, rather than stop then start, my elderly lady has been feeding the birds for decades, she’s 91.
I like your apple “holder” thingy…did you make that?
Mine wouldn’t eat them much so I don’t bother. When I used to I put them in a wire feeder so that the blue tits won’t feed whole nuts to the chicks because they can choke and die.
What do you feed the hedgehogs with?
Yes I did, a plastic rod, stuck a cap I had in one of my boxes, to raise the apple up I taped together a couple of spacer tubes that come with TV wall mounts. I cut the top off the apple drill a hole through it and hey presto an apple holder which sits on a shelf I knocked up.
