Anything to do with wild birds

What’s a Blackcap?

Word is getting round here, about the goodies in this garden, still no one has been in the window feeder yet…bit too open I think, once the shrubs start sprouting, I think they will have the confidence to enter the feeder.

There’s been very few birds around all winter here, I’ve had suet out, the starlings used to grab that, I’ve got a fat ball out and occasionally a Robin will have a nibble, maybe the odd tom tit but thats it.

What a shame, I wonder why that is?

My elderly lady that I help, lives in the sticks, their natural habitat really, for the wild birds…she must have at least a 100 birds if not more, while I’m there helping her,…it’s an amazing sight, she also has a large pond, we were watching the blue tits bathing on a brick, with water just covering it, must have been at least a dozen, all splashing about,:heartpulse:

My tiny bit at the bottom of the garden is very sheltered, a fence over 6 ft, plus evergreen laurel and large leafed ivy, which has taken over the fences.

I’ll post a picture of where they feed later.

I have no idea as this is bigger than they usually get but I suspect not long than a day.

I have loads of Sparrows, Bluetits and Starlings you can have I have more than enough.

Crikey, a day,:open_mouth::open_mouth:…you have a lot of birds showing up…

I bet they make a lot of mess ,as in bird muck…mine did ,when I used to feed them regular, I was forever washing the fences down, not now ,as the Ivy has taken over the fence…I’ll give it a good power wash with the hose, depending how mucky it is.

Cannot say I have noticed as where I have the feeders etc are in trees and bushes so any mess is nutrients for the them. And the rain does a decent enough cleaning job.

Wow, that’s seems unusual. The fat balls I put out yesterday lunchtime have taken a serious battering. Just a few minutes ago we had up to 4 birds at a time hanging off the feeder pecking away at the balls while Mr Blackbird was on the grass below pecking up all the bits that fell down.

Nothing’s been on our sunflower seed feeder yet that I know of.

Mine is only a tiny garden, so they are quite restricted ,plus the garden has high fencing all round.your communal garden is open I believe and much bigger than mine…:+1:

Put the fat ball thing up this morning, I expect it will be avoided for most of the day as my lot don’t like new things.

My Robin was back today I never see him at a feeder etc or at the seeds I sprinkle on the ground I wonder why that is?

My robins are always on my feeder, there is a platform it can stand on, they too love sunflower hearts, which is a fav amongst the birds.

I think Jackdaws are a stunning bird.

I notice you feed the birds peanuts, mine won’t touch them…

My lot will eat anything.

Caught the Robin having its breakfast on the seeds I sprinkle on a path for the larger birds.

Sparrows come down as well unfortunately this image was taken through a closed window which has a film on when I opened it as quietly as I could they were off but the Robin replaced them.

Never one to miss out one of my squirrel friends also had some.

That is from an upstairs window and 20 or so yards away but the camera I have can take a decent image even with much zoom.
