Angry driver v Bike

Insurance would be a good thing too

Assurance would be better, certainly.

Seriously now… how do you feel about cyclists having to have insurance cover

Not sure about insurance @marciniak if truth be told. Don’t really want to put obstacles in the way of enticing people onto bikes IMHO. But, really do want them to follow the agreed rules and fully understand how precarious bikes can be.

I’ve never heard of a car coming out of a prang with a bike worse off. Am sick to death of seeing some cyclists (especially those with children carriers) poorly visible with dark clothing and no lights!!!

I used to be a keen cyclist but I found the roads getting a tad worse, plus my brother has been hit off three times in as many years

I kind of agree with what you say… but our roads are not capable of having cycle lanes added to them, and cycling around here on the main roads is a bit dubious at certain times of the day

Yes cycling is good and be good to see more, now its electric scooters, streets reduced to 20 mph… and the scooters are overtaking the cars, also lots minor accidents with them on the pavements, reason no one can hear them

@marciniak I think that by and large we’re in agreement about bikes, bike lanes etc. I also think that when e cars become more prevalent, then (due to their relative silence), prangs with bikes will become even more commonplace.

Unless, of course, technology in the form of speed restrictors and proximity sensors become the norm.

It’s getting tough been a mere pedestrian.

Nothing mere about you :grinning:

Oh you are a love … that was a lovely thing to say … how did you know I was having to diet

Our beloved Morty thinks she can walk on water. Geddit??

You mean I’m all inflated and blown up like water wings?
You are a terror Dex, trying to puncture my ego.

I would really like to see speed limits drastically reduced, inner city 15mph

Motorways 45mph… I know that would never happen, but I’m sure there would be some benefits…and obviously big drawbacks

It was the word “mere” I was getting at.

You know those chicanes? I don’t know their proper names but they seem to cause more driver angst and risk of collision than any other traffic calming measure.

I believe you…thousands wouldn’t.

Nope, would never do that… you are to clever for me to have any chance of that anyway

@marciniak , I’ve been banging on about the use of increasingly accurate satnavs to be used to physically prevent vehicles from being able to move in excess of local speed limits for ages. This would mean no more sleeping policemen, the ability to enforce temporary speed restrictions etc etc. Plus, of course, nobody would ever be fined for breaking speed limits.

While we’re in a traffic discussion, did you know that if you moved into a bus lane to allow an emergency service vehicle get past you, you’d still be liable to pay the statutory fine?

Really? That’s downright ridiculous.

I can’t understand why cutting an hour off a three hour journey is so important, driving fast is not relaxing, doing 50 mph is less stressful

Accidents survival rates would be much higher
