Sorry but viewing that I can’t see why the car couldn’t pass the cyclist on that road.

You got to ask was the cyclist riding down the middle, or tuck to the side…if so why did the driver of the car go so close to the cyclist.

Seeing how close to the parked vehicles were to his off side when he overtook the cyclist, suggests the cyclists was in the middle of the road…and why set the camera to view the reverse not the front…sugest he was looking to have a go at some motorist.

As for the Girl, yes them guys in the van deserved a lot worse than a damage mirror

Mind I wouldn’t recommend any girl to do the same

OMG, there are some obnoxious people on the roads. It was a little bit funny when he fell over, though :smiling_imp:

I think the cyclist was deliberately winding him up a bit for the camera, though.

And the girl, exactly what they deserved but she took a chance….if they’d opened the door and pulled her in ……

Was the geezer in the Peugeot on his way to a “Car Boot”?

Perhaps the cyclist ought to refresh his understanding of the highway code in relation to cycling on a pavement.

Perhaps the driver should have elocution lessons not elocuntion schooling.

I assume that is a deliberate attempt to be contentious? If not, then I hope you are a non driver who lacks the experience to understand what you are saying.

The cyclist is riding perfectly safely & correctly, only an idiot would pass parked cars too closely. First car doors can open as people get out. Secondly people, dogs etc can suddenly appear from between parked vehicles, third, you need to allow space to allow for others mistakes, a car starting to move etc. Fourth, being too close to vehicles as you pass them, stops car drivers from seeing you easily in their wing mirror, thus resulting in car doors being opened on you, more cars pulling out.

As for the passing car. Rules 212 to 215 cover the safe passing of cyclist & your knowledge is below that of a reasonably competent driver. So I suggest, if you drive, that you seek some further training.

The over taking is appalling. The cyclist is behaving as the rules of the road recommends.

As for me, yes I sometimes use a bicycle, but I also hold advanced driving certificates for car & motorcycle, defensive driving certificate for PSV’s (Coach & Bus) And advanced (security driving) training with HGV’s & as a Chauffeur.

@Gee3 , Excellent post Gee,
Why. do some car drivers assume they have right of way over cyclists ?
Your list of reasons for the way the cyclist was riding are entirely valid !
The car driver was obviously a moron and got what he deserved in the
end !!
I hope the cyclist used all the video evidence to lay a charge !!
Donkeyman!

So basically you are saying that road was/is not wide enough to overtake a cyclist.

You must be good to know the distance between cars and cyclist, plus the speed of the vehicle and knowing the car driver was not concerned about pedestrians stepping out or dogs. Because none of this is shown/evident on the film clip.

Yes I do drive, like many others I also overtake cyclists… and yes I and many others take all the necessary precautions to pass.

Many of us can drive a multitude of different vehicles, but what we cant see or know, we can only surmise…. Like what you have done…… I to could do name calling about your post.

Its just a different opinion on what I see, if you can’t accept that, that’s fine but no need for the name calling

I think I would have gone back to see if the bloke was okay after falling.
Personally if I had been driving the car I would still have overtaken the cyclist (I used to be a white van man and there’s no time to bugger about when you’ve got plenty of drops to make) but apologised when he approached my window.

Sorry on what I see…or what we can’t see, how can we say the cyclist was totally in the right.

I must ask why was his camera set in reverse, when the norm is forward.

Yes car drivers can be bad and dangerous to cyclists, but the same can be said of cyclists

Neither party concerned behaved appropriately.
