Like our much beloved RS I just cannot stop myself spending money. I already have a drone which I bought off one of my kids years ago but it drives me up the wall, it requires a phone to use as a screen, the charging and assembly just puts me off using it. The camera is also only 1080p - remembering that I am now the proud owner of a 4K camcorder
Yesterday I was browsing Amazon when I came across the latest version of this drone in a combo package with a controller with built in screen, three batteries, case, spare props etc. All for $1498.
Ordered it yesterday about midday, this morning it arrived.
At the moment I am watching videos about using it while the batteries charge. It has far more features than my old one.
In Australia these small drones (under 250gm) for recreational use do not require a licence or registration though there are rules about its use (largely ignored), however it is not wise to fly them near real aircraft or over Poland.
Bruce, you need to start “auditing” get yer ass and yer drone down to some public installation, wind up an employee or two then, put the footage on youtube. Obviously, you will have to base yourself in a prominent position where you can be seen and challenged, otherwise there would be no point
Alas I don’t have a donkey but there are rules for flying drones but as I shall be using mine when I am in the middle of nowhere most of them are irrelevant.
Sounds great Bruce, my drone was a bit on the cheap side and you need your phone to record videos, which is a right pain in the but.
I did buy a smaller one with a console and screen (Hubsan) but found it so unmanageable and crap, even the camera was poor quality.
Folding Drone, easier to transport when folded.
Bruce not many have the monitor built into the control unit which mine didn’t. So I gave it to my son
in that photo of it hovering in the room, one false move and you may need a new TV as well
I saw an advert for a drone which was designed to carry mobile phones, which I guess may produce better pictures (unless you spend a pretty penny on a decent one). No idea how one is actually meant to start, pause or stop the recordings mid flight🤷🏻♂️. How long can a mobile actually record footage before being out of memory?
That was the main reason I bought it (plus the 4K video) The old one used an old phone as the screen and putting it all together was the proverbial pain and it meant so many things needed to be kept charged.
It is very easy to fly, it stays exactly where it is if you don’t touch the controls it also has obstacle avoidance sensors so you can’t crash into your TV.
Wind is its enemy there is a limit to how much wind it can fight against but a slight breeze is fine
My main problem is that I forget which control does what and tend to try one to check it does what I think it does (often it doesn’t
It folds into a remarkably small package, this one has a strap to protect the propellers when folded which the old one didn’t.
I will doubtless fly it again today but will take some pics of it.
The controller has an automatic take off and landing button. It takes off and hovers at about 1 metre waiting for your instructions. If it loses signal or the battery gets low it automatically flies to where it took off from and lands, the GPS seems quite accurate. Most of these features were on the old model too.
DJI has a YouTube channel with instructions for the various features like various “follow” modes.
I noticed on the AliExpress page a device to attach to this drone which can carry and release stuff so I can carry a grenade to drop on people who throw things at it.
However I have no idea how much weight it can carry. .
Whether a phone picture would be a better picture I am not sure because this camera on board is a 4K version and has zoom facilities as well as a gimbal to keep it stable. Aren’t phones mostly 1080p?
