A New Toy to Play With

Like our much beloved RS I just cannot stop myself spending money. I already have a drone which I bought off one of my kids years ago but it drives me up the wall, it requires a phone to use as a screen, the charging and assembly just puts me off using it. The camera is also only 1080p - remembering that I am now the proud owner of a 4K camcorder

Yesterday I was browsing Amazon when I came across the latest version of this drone in a combo package with a controller with built in screen, three batteries, case, spare props etc. All for $1498.

Could I resist? No, I could not!

Ordered it yesterday about midday, this morning it arrived.

At the moment I am watching videos about using it while the batteries charge. It has far more features than my old one.

In Australia these small drones (under 250gm) for recreational use do not require a licence or registration though there are rules about its use (largely ignored), however it is not wise to fly them near real aircraft or over Poland.

It should be fun.

Our neighbour had a drone.I used to throw things at it.No chance of hitting it but just showing my resentment for his impinging on my privacy.

It’s a cruel world

Yes, it is.I could never hit it.

Alas, the range is insufficient for me to send mine down your way so you can have another go.

Bruce, you need to start “auditing” get yer ass and yer drone down to some public installation, wind up an employee or two then, put the footage on youtube. Obviously, you will have to base yourself in a prominent position where you can be seen and challenged, otherwise there would be no point  :icon_wink:

Alas I don’t have a donkey but there are rules for flying drones but as I shall be using mine when I am in the middle of nowhere most of them are irrelevant.

Sounds great Bruce, my drone was a bit on the cheap side and you need your phone to record videos, which is a right pain in the but.
I did buy a smaller one with a console and screen (Hubsan) but found it so unmanageable and crap, even the camera was poor quality.
Folding Drone, easier to transport when folded.

Unfolded Drone with Prop protectors (for the novices like me)

Airborne Drone in the lounge…

This was the small Hubsan Drone, very hard to hover…

But the console and screen were brilliant.

Bruce not many have the monitor built into the control unit which mine didn’t. So I gave it to my son
in that photo of it hovering in the room, one false move and you may need a new TV as well

I saw an advert for a drone which was designed to carry mobile phones, which I guess may produce better pictures (unless you spend a pretty penny on a decent one). No idea how one is actually meant to start, pause or stop the recordings mid flight🤷🏻‍♂️. How long can a mobile actually record footage before being out of memory?
