**A new global rugby tournament which will see northern hemisphere teams face their southern hemisphere counterparts every two years from 2026 has been agreed, according to reports.

The new league structure, which the Telegraph report has now been agreed, will only include international games taking place in the summer and autumn windows, with two groups of six teams from each hemisphere (Six Nations and Rugby Championship sides) being joined by Japan and Fiji.

Northern hemisphere sides are set to play three southern opponents away from home in the July window, with the return fixture played in the November window. The top sides from each pool would face off in a grand final.

That means traditional summer tours to one host country will come to an end, except for Lions tour years.

The report adds that from 2030, a promotion and relegation could be brought in to provide a pathway from a second-tier competition set to be launched in 2024 for nations including Georgia, Samoa and Tonga

I’d like to be at Wales home games but I’m watching Newport so I won’t be.
@Psmith will it be a Newport Cardiff Cup Final?

** Wales Women’s senior head coach Ioan Cunningham has named his side to open the 2023 TikTok Six Nations against Ireland at Cardiff Arms Park on Saturday, March 25th (KO: 2.15pm).

Share this page:

Centre Hannah Jones will captain the side and will be partnered by Kerin Lake in the Wales midfield. Swansea-born and Auckland-raised Kate Williams will make her Wales debut off the bench against the Irish.

Back rower Williams joined up with the Wales squad at the recent World Cup in New Zealand and has now moved to Wales to fulfill her international ambitions.

Elinor Snowsill and Keira Bevan have been partnered at half-back while the Wales wings are Lisa Neumann and Carys Williams-Morris, with Courtney Keight at full-back.

Sisilia Tuipulotu, who made her Wales debut off the bench the last time the two sides met in Dublin back in 2022, packs down with Gwenllian Pyrs and Kelsey Jones in the front row.

Abbie Fleming and Gwen Crabb are selected in the second row, while Georgia Evans, Alex Callander and Bethan Lewis make up the back row.

Cunningham, said: “There were some tough calls around this selection and the competition for places is what every coach wants. We are excited to get started and cannot want to kick off the tournament.

“We know Ireland will pose a formidable challenge but we finished third in last season’s TikTok Six Nations and want to improve on that. As a team, we know we can create opportunities and we just need to finish them off and score more tries.

“The squad have worked really hard and we have prepared really well and we are looking to make a positive start at Cardiff Arms Park on Saturday.

“It is great to have Gwen Crabb back at second row, she has worked really hard to get back and to have a player with all her experience is a real positive for us.

“It’s great to see Kate Williams in the squad and she has really contributed to the squad since she has been here and it’s great to give her an opportunity to win her first cap.

‘Overall, we have looked for settled combinations and partnerships and the focus has been very much on selecting a side to face Ireland.

“We want to back up what we achieved last year but we also feel we should have won three games last season. So we want to build on last year and starting at home is real positive for us.

“We want to start well and to give our supporters something to cheer, inspire the next generation of players and build some real momentum for the rest of the campaign.”

So it’s one of those weekends that supporters of sporting teams long for.
The cup semi final.
Last year Newport won the Premiership Cup and we are hoping to defend it.
Last year we beat those city types from Cardiff in the semi-an historic result in more ways than one-and they are in the other semi-final tomorrow.
Could it be a Newport-Cardiff final for third time?
So tomorrow all roads lead to Bridgend for the semi-final with Pontypridd who we just happen to be playing in the league next Thursday.
The days of huge crowds for club rugby are over.
But both teams die-hards( most of us well past 50) will be there tomorrow.
That will include my friend Alan-or Ponty as I call him.
Next week when leather meets willow at Sophia Gardens we’ll be on the same side.
Tomorrow we are arch rivals-all friendly of course.
I hope I’ve got the bragging rights-because if we lose

he will be reminding me of it all Summer!
…Cardiff play RGC at Merthyr.

Womens Six Nations…what a game in Cardiff

Wales Women’s head coach Ioan Cunningham has selected his side for the Round 2 fixture in the TikTok Six Nations against Scotland at the DAM Health Stadium, Edinburgh on Saturday, April 1st (KO: 5.30pm).

Centre Hannah Jones will captain the side for the visit to Scotland, where scrum half Keira Bevan will win her 50th cap for Wales.

Cunningham saw his team beat Ireland 31-5 in front of a record crowd in the tournament opener at the Arms Park on Saturday. There is one enforced change in the pack due to the knee injury picked up by second row Gwen Crabb and two positional changes.

Georgia Evans moves into the second row to partner Abbie Fleming, with Sioned Harries starting at No8. Bethan Lewis moves across the back row to blindside flanker.

Otherwise, the side sees skipper Jones partner Kerin Lake in the midfield, with Elinor Snowsill at fly-half.

The back three remain the same with Courtney Keight at full-back and Lisa Neumann and Carys Williams Morris on the wings.

Gwenllian Pyrs, Kelsey Jones and Sisilia Tuipulotu are the Wales front row, with openside flanker Alex Callender completing the back row, alongside Harries and Lewis.

Cunningham, said: “This team deserves the opportunity to build on the performance against Ireland for what we know will be a tough challenge away in Scotland.

“Scotland will still be hurting after the manner of our victory at the World Cup in New Zealand.

“While it was one of the best performances we have produced as a team in Cardiff there are plenty of areas to improve on. We have worked on those facets all week.

“The bonus point win showed we can score tries and that is one of the areas we have targeted to improve on in this campaign. To score those tries will give us real confidence in the way we want to play and attack.

“We have been forced into one change due to Gwen Crabb’s injury and the coaches, players and staff are all incredibly disappointed for her after she worked so hard to get back on the field.

“Gwen will get all the support she needs from us and I know she will be back.”
