I’m struggling to find figures on doctors suicides? Is it really higher than men in other jobs?
According to the ONS, in 2021, 47 male health professionals died by suicide
And 288 in the skilled construction and building trades?
Of course you’d really need to analyse that based on deaths per hundred people in those trades?
But it does seem as if men in professional trades have high suicide rates too?

I’m sure that this data is correct but I noted that the third lowest numbers are for the group “customer service occupations”. That surprises me as I’ve seen telephone service centres and heard really bad customers. Both would drive anyone to some sort of drastic action.

Yes, you’d expect that figure to be higher, wouldn’t you?
An awful job and sometimes enough to drive the customer crazy too if they ever manage to get through to them .

I’ve seen people working in one firsthand and it was like hell on earth. They had a very fast turnover of staff, no surprises there!
What we don’t realise as customers who have been waiting for hours for a reply is that they are taking calls constantly, straight after each other
They don’t pick up calls, as such, they are plugged into a computer system that automatically connects the next call to them when the former customer hangs up, no break in between
They have quotas of calls they have to take in an hour and a strict time limit on how long they can spend on each call, a script they’re not allowed to break and receive disciplinaries if they can’t answer enough calls or spend too long on a customer
And when you think they are trying to get rid of you it’s because the supervisor is monitoring and telling them over their headset that they’re spending too long with you!
So, I know it’s infuriating but the fault is usually with the company they work for being too tight to employ more people to answer the phones and to provide proper customer service that takes as long as needed!
I always feel sorry for annoying cold callers .
Dreadful job.
Truly awful job - which is why another surprise is the relatively low number of sales people committing suicide. Unless those sales people in well paid and highly bonused jobs out-number the cold callers. Or its that a certain type of person suits sales and others might try it but duck out early.

Don’t you realize that there are diffferent ideologies studying male behaviours in health and illhealth? - Is the Sike male for example less prone or more prone to suicide ideology. We can’t now in UK lump all males together [well we can if we wanna be shoddy!] and then claim that either they all have similar ideologies relating to suicide or we may need to consider that they have significantly different ideologies. So this sort of lack of consideration in any humanistic behavioural study will squeue the results making them biased and incorrect? Perhaps in a particular race the female is more prone to suicide than males?

bret, the structure of the core data is far more complicated than just half a century ago.
thast just makes it more confusing - there were no periods specified in the intro section?? - it was just a general throw away title and why men wot about women too ? - they commit suicide and in some instances just as frequently as men. - unfortunately there is a complete absence of both gender data and multicultural data - this is just a church discussion group ?
