The irony is that Vegemite is made from the Barley yeast left over from beer making.
wouldn’t it be funny if vegemite and marmite were one and the same!
Yeah. Funny….as in ……yuk, yuk, yuk.
strangely enough I have eaten both once [not at the same time] but now could only ever eat one unless starving - they are undoubtedly similar in manufacture; consistency and even flavour BUT it is that magical touch that separates us all innit??
Is it just me … who thinks Marmite was different back in the 50s/60s/70s? It’s got thinner, gooier. I used to think it had cow in it, and maybe it did. It changed, on the quite, at the time of the Mad Cow scare.
No, it’s not just you. I think it doesn’t spread as easily at it once used to. It can tear the bread if it is spread too quickly.
usually only recommended
best used on toast only is my experience with your cousin vegamite?
And WW2 never happened.
Put me down as a Marmite fan. When I try to solve the daily Codeword puzzle I have a mug of hot Marmite by my side. For me, the two go together.
I adore marmite any which way ,on toast with cheese , or peanut butter , with tomatoes in a sandwich added to mash or jacket potatoes stirred into soup …it’s a good job I don’t add salt to cooking …Marmite rice cakes are divine.
Under beans on toast…
We don’t have Marmite peanut butter here!
But, I’m going to give it a try and I’ll report back on this thread!
I’m taking one for the team!!!
Definitely brain food!
Thanks Minx! I’m looking forward to your report.
I’ve never tried Marmite but I do enjoy a cup of hot Bovril in the Winter evenings
I’ll bet quite a bit is charged for a ready-made jar. It’s a mixture I’ve always made for myself. Spread the peanut butter on the bread/toast and then spread some Marmite on top of that.
I’m too lazy and a jar is just £2.40.
