While I'm still around

So, had some texts back from the doctor after my blood test (re potential gallstones, as discussed on the fobidden planet).

One said low in vitamin B12, prescription placed for me at my phamacy.

One said high cholesterol, so need to discuss plan of action (probably suggesting statins for life).

A third said something which they said might be an error, so I need to book another test.

This is kinda why I try to avoid going to the doctors.

Really don’t want to become a slave to medicines for the rest of my life.

But, while I’m still around, …Hiya

I can appreciate your frustration, Dex, but hopefully they will get to the root of the problem, identify the correct medication and all will be well.

I’m on Statins and blood thinners, couple of TIA’s necessitate them.

Thanks Tango. It’s just all the other stuff that they’ll harp on about.

My old fella had a blister book of all sorts of meds to take over the final year or so of his life to be taken at specific times during the day, in all sorts of combinations. Naturally, some of these were to counteract the side effects of other prescribed meds, and I suspect that some of these probably needed more tablets to counteract their own side effects.

Just don’t want to start down the slippery slope of it all.

Without being too indelicate, were you a fatty like what I am?

No, but eating fatty food in the middle of the night for 45 yrs had my Cholesterol up at 6, down to 3 now with tablets and proper diet.

Mine is somewhat higher. Lack of doing any exercise and too many choccies, as well as smoking won’t be helping. Suppose I’d better do something about it if I’m to get the doctor off my case and not have to take meds.

Good luck with that @Dextrous63 but in my experience and especially if you don’t keep on at them, they can be a useless bunch when it comes to both B12 and cholesterol.
Mrs Zaphod has been investigated for gallstones & been on B12 jabs on & off for years without them getting either right yet, and they’ve just started about her high cholesterol now too.
She does have a few other problems too but as I said, as far as we are concerned they seem not to have much of a clue what they’re doing because they can’t get the treatment right.
On top of that I’m not going to start on how utterly useless they were with me.

I hope for your sake that you have a better experience with them.
:innocent:

Thanks @Zaphod . On the whole I try to avoid them, but sometimes needs must!

Bugger the doctor do something about it before you become ill.

My sentiments exactly.

Tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow.

Supposed I’d better make tomorrow today!!

Don’t suppose that chain smoking and eating every choccy in the house tonight is really in the right spirit, but hey ho, as said above …needs must.

I have been on statins and blood pressure medication for many years with no side effects. Some complain of side effects from statins. Exercise and diet makes a slight difference if your levels are not too high. My BMI is just over 25 making me slightly overweight.
I should add if you are on a fatty diet that would make a bigger difference.

Oooh we are almost twins! Dextrous.
I have high cholesterol at 6 but my doctor is not worried as his is the same and we both have good cholesterol! It’s hereditary!
It’s the bad cholesterol from eating rubbish that is the worst.

I have to have B12 injections every 12 weeks as again, it’s hereditary!

I hope your ‘error’ mystery ailment is nothing to worry about.

I’m not a fan of statins. Not because I’ve ever been on them but because everyone I know who is/has doesn’t seem to be that well afterwards.

My view is that if you have blood results you don’t like try a lifestyle change before going onto life changing meds.

B12 is that pernicious anaemia?

No idea whatsoever. They want me to take it daily for 3 months and then have another blood test.

Personally, I’d prefer to be told what sort of dietary or other natural things would be beneficial. Will google it obviously, but it wouldn’t be beyond the wit of mankind for them to direct me to an approved site or pdf instead of asking me to reach for the apothecary counter.

Edit - read the stuff on here Vitamin B12 or folate deficiency anaemia - Symptoms - NHS

Don’t have any of those symptoms apart from irritability and decline in mental abilities. But I think I’ve had those for around 40 years anyway.

Dex, I told one of my doctors that I preferred to deal with my magnezium deficiency with my diet & he gave me a big list of suitable foods that would help and told me to go back for another blood test in 6 weeks.
Every day I have eaten 2 portions of these foods and they seem to be getting rid of the symptoms… but what I read on google told me that it would take 40 weeks to get back to normal levels.

A couple of tablets a day are Ok, providing there are no side effects, like, interrupting yer Drinkin. :grinning: :man_artist:
