My chemist handed over a big bag of chemicals for me digest. It felt more like a takeaway than a prescription. Anyway, since my weekend has, and will later today, involve much drinking due to going out to eat with friends, I’m not starting them until tomorrow in case there are any adverse side effects mixing them with alcohol.
Go gently Dex, ignore the leaflet, slowly slowly catchy monkey.
Dex I do empathise. I was told my cholesterol was too high at 5.8. I didn’t want any more medication, so I said I would change my diet. This was 6 months ago, and I hate to say that apart from the first couple of weeks, my diet is pretty much the same as it always was.
The frustrating thing is that around Christmas 2019 a blood test showed that I was in the pre-diabetic range. I was so flipping scared I immediately changed my diet. It really was a complete turnaround - I reduced my carbs by about 75%, kept a close eye on sugar intake, switched to almond milk, only had porridge for breakfast, made with water and a little almond milk. All this and more. I lost a stone and a half in 2 months. And then along came Covid. And I thought, ‘oh what the heck? This thing’s gonna kill us all, so why deprive myself?’ And I’ve pretty much carried on that way, putting back on the stone and a half, and another half stone for good measure. Well actually, bad measure really.
I just can’t seem to find that resolve again. If you manage to do it, please tell me how!!
@Bathsheba Going to set up a blog type of thread tomorrow. Very, very softly over a 2 year period to take myself from where I am to where I want to be by the age of 60. No outrageous claims of overnight “New Year’s Day” changes. Softly, very softly catchy monkey.
That’s a tough call Bathsheba, where to get advice on that front, building a lifestyle is usually accidental, built on stuff beyond an individuals control so, is hard to quantify
