Mine’s on the blink - curious what everyone has…
- How long have you had it and would you recommend it?
- How big is the drum size?
- Has it been reliable?
- Can you remember when you bought it and how much you paid for it?
Mine’s on the blink - curious what everyone has…
Ours is a Hotpoint and had it for about five years, No problems so far. My experience is just installing it - the she lady does the operational aspect and she will let me know right quite quick if there is !
Mine W/M is broken & I need a new one as well. At present my Daughter is taking my washing & doing it for me.
My machine’s a Zanussi & aprox 40 years old so it certainly doesn’t own me anything.
I think it’s this Bosch about 8, nearly 9 years ago. It’s been pretty reliable. I would buy another bosch.

also the capacity a washing machine hold should also be a consideration. We used to have one that was a dual washing machine and drier combined. also if you want a topload or a front loader and the side the front load door opens out. Not forgetting overall size We have had this inderset well before we moved 11 years ago. check spin speed while your looking
Use new water hoses as well if not suppied with machine
Yes the direction of the door hinges and whether you can make it left or right is very important in tight spaces. You want to be able to open the door fully 180 degrees and not encounter a wall or corner unit.
I bought “Speed Queen” washer & dryer 13 years ago. Top Loading. No computers or flashing lights. Around $600.00 each. The are commercial & heavy duty. Often used in apartments & laundromats 25 year warranty.

no good for us here in the UK we work on a different voltage to the USA.Your on110V and we are on 240V.
It would either blow up or catch on fire. At least the second option might dry any clothing inside quicker.

Actually USA uses heating is 230V for heating and 110V use lighting for domestic properties. Here in UK and the EU it is 230V.
Thanks everyone!
Yep, this is a requirement, hence asking about drum size. Some say 9kg machines are fine, some say 11kg or larger would be better.
My current machine is 9kg, but I definitely want a larger one as it can barely fit 2 pillows. I haven’t risked washing my duck feather duvet yet as I’d cry if it got wrecked. If I get an 11kg machine I would risk it.
Our washing machine is a thinQ made by LG
I don’t know what size it is but I found this info on it. It’s a matching set. The dryer sits perfectly on top of the washer…
LG ThinQ washers and dryers are
LG’s line of smart laundry appliances featuring Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing remote control, cycle monitoring, and maintenance alerts via the LG ThinQ app. They often include features like AI fabric sensing, Steam+ for allergen removal, TurboWash for faster cycles, and integration with smart assistants like Alexa and Google Assistant. These appliances come in separate stackable units or as compact all-in-one washer/dryer combos, offering advanced fabric care and convenience.
Key Features of LG ThinQ Laundry:
User Experience:
Reviews mention user-friendly apps, effective cleaning (though some prefer extra rinses), and convenience features like remote start. Some users find the all-in-one models efficient, while others with separate units appreciate the robust features.
Models Available:
You can find various models, including compact all-in-one units and full-size washers and dryers that can be stacked or installed side-by-side, often sold in sets
Had it for 3 years now
Paid $2,000 for washer and $2,000 for dryer
Yes I would recommend it
I have a 7.5kg LG washing machine which replaced my antique 6kg Hoover washing machine which had done me for a couple of decades. I bought it last year.
Didn’t really need the extra capacity and discovered it has a lot more room than my old machine which had a paddle thing in the middle. The advantage is that I wash clothes and bedding less often because the machine takes so much. That doesn’t sound right, I mean I use the machine less often because it takes a lot more.
It does the job and even plays a tune when it has finished, I like the timer - I can set the machine the night before so it finishes at say 6.30am when I get up - with the old machine I had to use one of those mains timer switch things. I never turn the hot water tap on and it knows (shhh! it is watching me)
I am very pleased with this machine and can’t see the point of front loaders all that unnecessary bending down, top loaders are definitely the way to go!
I think top loaders are a nice idea if you have a utility room and that’s more likely to be the case in the US or Australia where people have bigger houses. In the UK utility rooms are becoming more popular for luxury houses, but in a 3 up 2 down it’s likely that the only space many people will have is under the kitchen worktop.
I would find it harder on my hands and lower arms to pull heavy wet washing out upwards than sideways, but I can see they might appeal if you find it hard to bend down.
Just because it can hold 7.5kg of washing you don’t have to take it all out at once you know, even better top loaders apparently spin clothes drier (or so I read)
I’ve washed a Duvet (I am assuming that is the same as a doona) in my machine it even has a setting for it
Don’t top loaders use a lot more water tho?
Probably but water is cheap (the dams are full). My water bill is about $70 a quarter.
Top loaders use more water, but the clothes come out cleaner & all the detergent is rinsed off. And no mold in the door.
We are awaiting delivery of our new washer, we have a Samsung washer that hasn’t been right since day one, it shakes about and is generally noisy, I’ve tried levelling it up but it makes no difference, I’ve even had the back off to check for any broken suspension struts, anyway, it’s starting to rust and the door lock is a bit iffy, and I can’t be ar**d replacing it, so, we ordered a Miele washer which should be here next Tuesday…
Have you never had that situation where a duvet cover eats up all the rest of the washing and you have to drag it out? I guess the solution is to button it up before washing but life’s too short to implement such sensible measures.
Bosch is a name Ms d00d likes, even though they are “no longer made in Germany”. Don’t ask what difference that makes.
