Do you have a tumble dryer? Which one?

Following on from the washing machine thread, have you got a tumble dryer? Which one?

  • How long have you had it and would you recommend it?
  • How big is the drum size?
  • Has it been reliable?
  • Can you remember when you bought it and how much you paid for it?

I have a thinQ model made by LG
It’s 3 years old and it sits on top of the matching washer dryer
It’s by far the best washer and dryer we’ve ever had

I don’t know the drum size

LG ThinQ washers and dryers are

LG’s line of smart laundry appliances featuring Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing remote control, cycle monitoring, and maintenance alerts via the LG ThinQ app. They often include features like AI fabric sensing, Steam+ for allergen removal, TurboWash for faster cycles, and integration with smart assistants like Alexa and Google Assistant. These appliances come in separate stackable units or as compact all-in-one washer/dryer combos, offering advanced fabric care and convenience.

Key Features of LG ThinQ Laundry:

  • Smart Connectivity: Use the ThinQ app to start, stop, monitor, and get notifications for your laundry from your smartphone.
  • AI DD (Artificial Intelligence Direct Drive): Detects fabric type and load size to select optimal wash motions for better fabric care.
  • Steam Technology: Cycles like Allergiene use steam to remove dust, pet dander, and pollen.
  • TurboWash: Significantly reduces laundry time for normal loads.
  • Smart Home Integration: Works with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant for voice commands and notifications.
  • ThinQ Care: Provides maintenance tips and alerts for your appliances.
  • Combo Units: All-in-one models offer washing and drying in a single machine, ideal for smaller spaces, with some featuring a 2-hour wash & dry cycle.

User Experience:
Reviews mention user-friendly apps, effective cleaning (though some prefer extra rinses), and convenience features like remote start. Some users find the all-in-one models efficient, while others with separate units appreciate the robust features.

Models Available:
You can find various models, including compact all-in-one units and full-size washers and dryers that can be stacked or installed side-by-side, often sold in sets.

Never owned one, my Hills hoist does the job.

Ours is a Hotpoint. The drum reverses direction every now and then to help avoid the clothes ending up in a ball and not drying on the outside.

Whichever one is chosen, I think it’s best to ventilate it to the outside of the house if possible. Otherwise all that moist air stays in the room. It could cause a damp atmosphere and mould. A dehumidifier can help to avoid that if it isn’t possible to ventilate to the outside.

Anything that I can add would be useless in nature Azz. It is a White Knight and second-hand. Worse it was located on the fifth floor and I had to get it down five flights of stairs and into the back of the car, while in agony., on my own.Got home and started it, and the seized belt snapped which I replaced. Used it for years in the garage, where it remains, having told my wife not to use the ruddy thing as it might catch light and wreck my pride and joy and large garage which I built.

Thanks for the replies everyone!

I ended up getting another LG washer dryer, this one:

https://www.lg.com/uk/laundry/washer-dryers/fwy916bbtn1/

They come with 5 year warranties so at least there’s that.

So far I love it! It’s a much bigger drum than my previous 8kg/5kg (this one is 11kg/6kg) and so it means I can wash more in one go, which is better for the environment :icon_biggrin:

If it ever breaks down I will report back in this thread!

I must be getting out of touch Azz. You have purchased a tumble dryer you can talk to:smiley:
