Trial and error I feel is the way to go.
could a Ninja be classed as a conventional oven? I use my Ninja a lot
OK a bit early at the mo… but I will top the Fridge up, so I am at least Prepared…
…Do you know of any good hangover recipes as well?
Maybe one that goes in the Microwave!
Would that be the Air Fryer?..they are an oven though…
Not a lot of choice at the moment as my hob and double oven blew up last week. That leaves me with a slow-cooker, a basic microwave and a kettle. Originally I had to learn to cook (plus everything else to do with the household) in a hurry so I am not all that proficient in either conventional or microwave. However, I have found that vegetables taste far better cooked in the microwave and also that it’s possible to cook bacon for sandwiches very easily, even crispy bacon. Also scrambled egg (as advised here on OFC). Previously I always used the microwave for heating coffee and porridge in the mornings. I am now left with a decision as to whether to get a new hob and oven or to invest in a Ninja air-fryer, which I have heard are good. If the microwave had a grill that would help, although I am finding it impossible to cook frozen meat etc. from the freezer unless using the slow-cooker. Also I am advised that cooking pies in a microwave is not recommended as they tend to go soggy.
What with a new forum, a new mobile phone and now learning to cook differently I am finding life is just one long, never-ending learning curve!
Always been a hair of the dog man myself.
I Don’t Own a Dog though …any other suggestions?..
I have heard nothing but good reports for Air Fryers…like most, it is better to get a well documented one like the Ninja.
I too have heard good reports about the Ninja air-fryer, they can cook more than one food and it’s this aspect that interests me. I check everything out before buying a new item so it’s a long process. Until then it’s still salad season and cold cooked chicken (from the supermarket), tuna or ham with salad is regularly on the menu. I do miss the other food that’s impossible to cook using a basic microwave though.
Definately a conventional oven.
We have a microwave at work which we just use just to heat food up.
If you consider a small oven …honestly I liked mine if only it was taller…It was a so called Gordon Ramsey one…seen one online now…
so it looked so good…what with the Stainless Steel Finish…
but looking good was all it had to offer…even the grill was not hot enough…
Definitely conventional oven for me!
I’ve been umming and ah-ing for ages about one (a Ninja Foodi) as well because they look great and as you say they are versatile too.
But it’s the size of them.
I’d need a bigger kitchen.
Thanks, something like that would be ideal. The old, now defunct, oven I used was the small oven with a larger oven below that. Have checked online and the Gordon Ramsey oven you mentioned is out of stock on two websites so either very popular or no longer produced.
All options being considered though!
No problem with the size of the kitchen, there’s only me to consider. It being a new hob and oven, what has to be considered is that the existing kitchen units are old and not to metric sizes, any new replacements being metric probably would not fit, meaning a lot of work.
These days I am not prepared to do all that so a Ninja air-fryer is even more appealing, plus of course the versatility.
I had kept it for quite some years, and would not recommend that one or any very small oven…would have to be around 14/15 inches or 35 cms in height, maybe a tad more…
It’s closer than a microwave
Probably something like a small microwave, they are often almost too small in height I find. It’s all down to looking around and deciding what would be best, then checking it out for suitability, the Ninja air-fryer does so far seem a good idea.
or this…
phew…got there…
I would use a conventional oven over a microwave almost always. I wouldn’t be without the microwave though, because it’s very useful for defrosting things in a hurry, and like @DianneWoollie, I use it to make things like sponge puddings, which are so quick and easy. My microwave, though, is a combi one so it does get used on convection when I need to cook things at widely different temperatures.
Having said all that, since buying a Ninja Foodi 9-in-1 earlier this year, I rarely use the oven at all - the Ninja does it all! Plus I have an Instant Pot which is great for things like casseroles and pasta, so for instance I could be cooking some vegetable pasta in the IP, and air frying some chicken pieces or salmon steaks in the Ninja at the same time. Who needs an oven?
