which do you prefer to cook with …in our house the microwave is practically redundant
Conventional oven.
The only time I used a microwave was to cook the cats fish and make scrambled eggs which it does magnificently.
IMHO things usually taste better when cooked in a conventional oven compared to microwaved but it depends upon what you’ve got and what your circumstances are too, maybe.
Our microwave is a combi microwave with grill and oven for example, so the oven part of microwave gets used quite a bit rather than using the bigger conventional oven just for one thing or for something small.
I use the microwave quite a lot for the milk that I use in my coffees too and there’s no doubt that a microwave can be quick and handy for some things, but most home-cooked stuff certainly tastes better when cooked in a conventional oven.
In my humble opinion of course.
That is just cruelty to eggs!
conventional every time.
My parents loved their microwave oven - and gave me one as a ‘house warming’ gift when I bought this house. Tried it a few times - enough to convince me it had no place in my kitchen - used it for storage for a while then put it out for the unwanted electrical stuff collection!
I haven’t used my conventional oven for years, have no idea if it still works. I use it for storing things in so have taped up the knob to warn unsuspecting visitors not to use it either
My Microwave has a grill and convection oven as well as a microwave but since I bought an air fryer which is really just a mini fan forced oven I rarely use the convection part of the microwave (I have never used the grill part).
Conventional oven always, my microwave gets very little use other than heating things.
I used to make scrambled eggs in the microwave that were softer and fluffier with less mess than on a hob. On hot buttered toast with some crispy bacon better than sex.
The Microwave is used every single day in our House.
Our Saber foody loves his fish for tea, so we buy, normally from Lidls the frozen Atlantic Pollock.
I have frozen veggies that can be boiled or microwaved, depends on the time factor…
I have frozen homemade gravy that goes in the Microwave to get defrosted.
The other day I had boiled egg and soldiers and the eggs were a but snotty…so I put them in the microwave…helmet on…and gave them a 5 seconds blast…
Use a Conventional Oven for a great deal of Cooking and the Hob.
I Have a 5-1 Instant Pot that gets used maybe one time each week.
I intend to buy very shortly an Air Fryer.
… I had a mini oven that was okish, but it was just too smallwise top to base so would easily burn food.
Yes that reminded me… I have used it for scrambled eggs and just don’t overcook them ,as they then turn into rubber though…
Just depends on what I’m cooking and how quickly I want it to cook/heat. For instance, I like some of Iceland’s ready meals. Some of those are 50 minutes in the conventional oven or 10 minutes in the microwave oven. If the conventional oven is on for anything else, they go in with it. If not then it’s the microwave oven.
Frozen oven chips, Birdseye chargrills, Pukka pies and sausages are not good done in the microwave oven.
I should add that my micowave is used everyday a dozen times at least.
My instant coffee is made in it, eggs are boiled or scrambled, milk for my breakfast cereal warmed , frozen pies heated, bacon cooked, vegies cooked and more.
Wouldn’t be without it, as essential as a toaster or electric jug… No, perhaps more so.
But your Microwave is more than a Microwave oven…guessing the beer helps with the sogginess of the pastry…
My M/wave is used only to heat up my milk every morning for my breakfast coffee.
Same goes for your pies mart…soggie ones in the Microwave Oven…Just thought …Puddings like Sponge and Syrup or Sponge and Jam are wonderful in the Microwave and take 5/7 minutes at most…
I mainly use the conventional oven for cooking and the hob for stir fries, the microwave is used for heating up my frozen meals , and ready meals from supermarket ,also to thaw bread out when ive fogotten
I learned a trick with that, wrap pie in paper towel, heat in microwave then put pie on wire rack for a couple of minutes and pastry hardens up, not as flaky as a pie warmer but not bad and definitely not soggy.
Mind you beer helps with everything
I would like to test that paper towel wrap etc…How many beers do I need to drink first though?
