Yeah I think it must be a cairn Bob! We also have a bench nearby as well, that was put there in memory of someone who loved walking up there. Must admit I love it here, these hikes (and the local community) are one of the things that keeps me here
Here are a couple from last night - it was getting cloudy/dark:
I will stop boring you with pics now
Youâll never bore me showing pictures of the wild places AzzâŠ
I completely forgot to post these two.
A bit surreal actually, the colour was just as golden as it is in these photos and I did wonder whether someone was there with me, in spirit - only to come on to the forum later to learn that @Omah had passed away. So these two photos I post in honour of him, he was the top poster in this thread. These are for you Omh!
It would be nice to think that Omah is still perusing the forum AzzâŠ
living in a built up area to do a countryside walk means driving to somewhere first. So the alternative is walking around local roads.
Having not walked for some weeks due to damaged knee I am now starting to get out and do a bit of walking again to get ready for the holiday to Portugal. it takes a few steps to ease up the joints but once going not too bad.
We walk every day with our dog, roughly about an hour three times a day. She is comfortable without the lead
Weâve had a couple of lovely days here and got this snap of the farmer out this evening
And these from last night:
I love these 24 degree+ days, walking back as the sun sets and the warmth still hitting you from the ground is pure heaven
In the last month there was this one (probably my favourite and a great memory)
and then this one
but also this one
Looks lovely Annie, hope youâve been back out there!?
Hereâs one from a couple of days ago, sheep always make my chuckle
Surprising how much detail these phones pick up now, this is from the same spot, but I turned the exposure right down - so itâs dark, but it picked up more of the details on the moon:
I wish I lived a bit nearer to places like that AzzâŠ
I love to encounter all animals while out rambling, sheep, cows and chickensâŠ
Sheep keep the grass nice and short, easy to spot mushrooms early in the morningâŠ
Cows are so curious and stare at you while chewing the cud, what must they be thinkingâŠSomehow so relaxing to watchâŠ
And Chickens are so happy scurrying around the farmyard like little housewives trying to get all of the days jobs done before dinnerâŠ
Lovely pics Bob!
Move to Wales youâd love it here There are mostly cows and sheep on my local hike, but when we used to take Rocky for a walk we had to drive him up to the top (as he had a steel plate put in his knee so wasnât allowed walking up hills) and weâd often pass farms with all sorts of animals. We spotted some tiny goats one day and stopped to take photos from their gate, and the farmer came out and invited us in to take better pictures - they were pygmy goats - Iâve just gone through my photos to find them, they were so cute
Also just spotted this while looking for that photo, we took Rocky to a beach once and noticed a lone walker, so took a snap. Went home and thought, something looks a bit odd so zoomed in âŠand they were nude!!
Wasnât one of you lot was it?
I almost came to live in North Wales Azz. The factory where I worked in Doncaster closed down and I was made redundant, but before I left I was asked if I would help them to move all the equipment to other sites and teach someone my job. One of the other sites was based in Colwyn Bay and I spent a couple of weeks there. I stayed at the Merrion Hotel in Llandudno and spent my free time walking and running in the area. I loved it very much, and at the end of my stay I was asked if I would like to re-locate there and continue working for the companyâŠI grudgingly had to refuse as Mrs Foxâs Mother was struggling with cancer and Mrs Fox didnât want to leave her. I introduced Mrs Fox to Llandudno when I returned to run the Snowdon Marathon. We have visited just about every year sinceâŠ
The naked rambler could very well have been me, about the same size and shape Azz and I can well understand the reasons for doing it. I have been tempted in the past when I find a remote placeâŠ
Iâm sure you would have loved it there Bob! And I can imagine once there, you could well have ended up moving a little further south when you discovered some of your favourite places in that area (i.e more in the mountains). Why not consider it now? If you donât have family that depend on you it could be a nice time to do it. A neighbour who moved here recently actually moved with her mum n dad from England (tho they bought a house nearer the beach). Weâve actually got quite a few English people here - I guess many move here as the prices are cheaper than England (though they are fast catching up as people are recognising we have this amazing countryside and less of the âissuesâ of bigger cities/England).
Hahaha, good on you! You can definitely tell youâre a hiker/postman from your legs They say getting sun all over your body is actually supposed to be really good for you - which I guess makes sense as thatâs what nature intended. Thereâs a spot by me thatâs a 20 minute walk away and when youâre up there you are enclosed in a semi-circle half way up the hill - itâs a real sun-trap but also means if youâre sunbathing towards the front you can see anyone walking up (nobody would look from the top/behind as theyâd risk falling). I thought Iâd try do an all over tan there once, and got sun burnt on my backside! Posted pics on my snapchat and my friends were taking the mick out of me
I think we should have had some sort of warning though
Thanks Azz, Iâm sure youâre right but Iâm a bit long in the tooth now for upping sticks, but I still drive long distances and during our visits to Llandudno we have had days out as far south as Barmouth, and inland as far as Snowdonia, Betws-y-Coed and Ffestiniog. I once helped some friends to move house to somewhere near Lampeter, I drove one of the lorries and stayed over a couple of nights.
Wales is a beautiful country Azz, and I still intend to spend some time there in the future.
I sympathise about the sunburnâŠOuch! But itâs nice to do something occasionally that excites you, and you are correct about the benefits of the sun so I try to get as much coverage as possible, but only in small incrementsâŠ
Perhaps we will get the opportunity to hike together sometime and have a good nagâŠ
Itâs not for everyone Mr Smith, but we entered this world naked, and for some people itâs the most natural thing in the worldâŠBut Iâm sorry if I put you off your breakfast, I try to be discreetâŠBut since the issue was raisedâŠ
Thanks,Iâm alright now.
Perhaps you could do a calendar, one for every day of the month.?
Blimey! Donât be giving him ideas, SmithyâŠ
