When was your last walk/hike?

I hope you are all enjoying the lovely weather and making the most of the countryside, here’s a pic from my walk earlier:

Nice pic Azz, looks like a good place to stop for a sandwich…
:sandwich:
I walk every day except Wednesday and Saturday when I have a couple of rest and recovery days.
I’ve been a bit slack this year and only walked local walks due to some heart issues and gout.
I still enjoy them but I miss the hills and the wild places.

My last lengthy walk was a week ago when I walked along a woodland route to see when and where it came out onto a road. I kept up a good pace there and back, It was a lot further than I thought. My right leg has been hurting ever since. I had also cycled a few miles in the morning. Too much too soon I suppose.

I’m glad you’re both getting out there - post pics if you take any

Diet can play a part in this OGF, many people feel leaky gut (gut permeability) is a major contributor. Foods high in sugar and carbs may be worth avoiding. There’s also a book called the GAPS book that you may want to look at

I bet that was it Mart. When I restart my walks I build up to them - first go along the cycle path for a few days, then when I start my hikes, do a qtr of what I usually do first, then half (and repeat for a couple of days) then can do the full hike. If I jump straight to a 6 hours hike it’d feel like I’ve done a heavy gym session and my legs will be like jelly

Thanks Azz I’ll look it up.
Doctor put me on Allopurinol at the back end of 2023 and I didn’t have an attack of gout all of 2024. Then in february of this year I had some angina like symptoms and was sent off to hospital where they injected me with ‘Heparin’ a blood thinning medication. The downside was that heparin increases the level of uric acid and three days later I had the worst attack of gout that I’ve ever had. I was almost bed bound with it for three weeks, the pain was excruciating. I would much rather endure the pain from a heart attack than gout.
I’m hopeful that I can control it from now on. I know the causes, the foods to avoid, and how long it takes high levels of uric acid to manifest itself into a painful attack.
Thanks for the recommendation Azz, you can never have too much knowledge…

Hop you feel better soon Bob :hugs: If you do get the book let me know what you think!

Looks lovely, and so flat! Would have been perfect for Rocky as he had a steel plate put in his knee and wasn’t supposed to do hill walks.

Make time!! :yum:
