What's on Netflix

We watched The Guns of Navarone last night. That was one great movie!

I am beginning to suspect the last really good movie made was Django Unchained, a lot of movies are being churned out by the streaming services and while they might be moderately entertaining they are not “great”.

manchester by the sea is really good. Streaming on netflix UK now

Good movie :+1:

Today’s actors lack charisma and personality. Look at the movie The Guns of Navarone. Gregory Peck, David Niven, and Anthony Quinn all had strong, unique personalities. You won’t find actors like that any more. They’re all bland.

Life list looks good too

I watched it yesterday, it is OK. Predictable but OK

chick flick territory

They go on too long, It was over two hours long. I think there should be a law limiting movies to 90 minutes :icon_wink: Only exceptional movies allowed to exceed this.

I quite like the literature references. Particularly the Hamlet discussion. I’ve never really thought of it as a play about indecision.

Who is Erin Carter

I saw this when it first came out a year or two ago, watching it again, what a wheeze.

We sat though all four episodes of Adolescence, yikes, pretty weird.

It was pretty interesting, and well done!

Adolescence pretty much summed up some of the information my teacher friends have fed back about their jobs. Not the subject of boy/girl relations, but the inability of teachers to function effectively in an education system that is falling apart and overwhelmed with pressure. Schools themselves have toxic cultures among the staff. Power struggles, backstabbing, isolation of peers and bullying. How can teachers effectively manage bullying and abuse when they are being bullied and abused themselves by both children and their own colleagues?

Sounds grim @AnnieS

And Adolescence was grim theatre.

Didn’t the BBC used to do things like that in the 70s, Play for Today?

Yes it was like a number of different scenes in a play. With players being followed around by the lone cameraman.

But as @Idlewild says, it was well done.

I am guessing that edginess was down to them using the first take of every scene. The scene where he is in the police station really feels as though you are there live and going through all the emotions.
