I have certainly mixed with some very dodgy people over the years. Still do!
What a sweeping generalisation and, I suppose, all UK people were snow white - like the Duke of Windsor, Unity Mitford et al. Ever heard of William Joyce? Between 1939-1945, 70 British men and women were convicted – mostly in secret trials – of working for Nazi Germany
Also consider how many Irish fought and died for the UK during both WWs
Royal Irish Regiment 1992 - present

My Uncle Bob was in the Royal Naval Reserves and received two commendations for bravery.
I had relatives on SS Dundalk - sunk with all hands in 1919 - courtesy of a german Uboat torpedo.
Well said, Artangel. It is so annoying that people - especially so called comedians - are so careful not to insult people from other races, religions, etc., but think it perfectly OK to insult the Irish. I have been spat at in the street for wearing shamrock on St Patrick’s day, and been called Paddy, Thick Mick, Bog Trotter - and worse. Most of the time I can ignore it - but, occasionally, it makes me cross.
Hi
I like the Irish, great fun and very witty.
The problem is that they have a bigger % of Nutters than Muslims do.
For some idiotic reason some of them think that the way to resolve problems is to blow up random innocents, including young kids.
I was an Enforcement Officer, I am also a Catholic.
It was the IRA who got me first and with life changing injuries.
I despise the IRA and UVF equally.
I despise ISIS.
I will do everything in my power, which at the momen is very little, to get the lot of them.
I loathe Terrorists, I do not loathe people.
Yes indeed, there are always two sides to a coin and there were many British people who openly supported Nazi Germany. Of the Irish people I know personally (in addition to those of you on here!) there are none who are anything but good, decent people with whom I have got on very well.
Of course, like those the world over, there are politicians who are not our friends.
I don’t know how true the stories are of the Irish supporting Nazi Germany in the second world war, but if they are true then I expect that the ordinary Irish people were not like that and it is more likely to be some of those in political positions with an axe to grind.
Then, of course, there are the two factions in Northern Ireland who hate each other and spent the days of ‘the troubles’ attempting to kill each other. Again, that seems to be a matter of religious differences and I believe that most people do not go around hating those of other religions, probably just a minority.
In Ulster there are the Loyalists, the descendants of the protestants who were chased out of Eire by the Fenians. Untill Blair introduced power sharing in a staggering betrayal of British people and encouraging republicans to enter that Bart of the UK progress against terrorism from the South was being made. Now the disaster of power sharing is becoming clear to all true Ulstermen the future for Ulster as the great reset commences looks — interesting. NO SURRENDER.
Yes, I thought that originally Northern Ireland was established - or retained as British - when the Republic of Ireland was created in 1921. The (smaller) north for Protestants; the (larger) south for Catholics.
All good and fair. In theory, at least, everyone happy. I am no expert, but was part of N.I., specifically the area around Londonderry, majority Catholic or not. If so, was the area of N.I. chosen or delineated wrongly?
My next question: is Ireland the only country in the world where Catholics and Protestant are willing to murder each other because of their religious differences?
@Silver Tabby, As l explained to Angel earlier ST, I never mentioned her
name at all, neither did l reply to any post of hers nor did l know she
is a paddy!!
What’s wrong with being a paddy anyway ? All the irish blokes l knew in
sarf lundun were called paddy , and if they had male kids they got called
paddy too?? Strangely the irish ladies were known by their married names,
such as missus Murphy etc, and if unmarried by their Christian names !!None of
the Irish blokes l knew took offence over this, but instead seemed rather
proud of of it??
On the ‘donkey’ issue, l was merely refering to the tendency of paddies to
be extremely obstinate ! Which can be a good, or bad thing, as the ‘Irish
Troubles’ have shown and also as the parish rugby teams have shown too ??
I shall continue to call a paddy a paddy untill some paddy takes offence
and tries to break my nose !!
As l have just explained, ladies don’t count ?
Donkeyman!
Depends on how it is said, Donkeyman. It can be endearing - it can equally be insulting.
Of course, because Paddy is short for Patrick and women are not called Patrick.
Of course, with all this ‘trans’ nonsense these days, who knows?
Yes, that works.
I used to work for a German company that had a factory in L/derry and I visited it once. That was enough for me. Even though the company made great efforts to maintain a 50/50 balance between prods and RCs, there was still trouble between the 2 branches, even within the company, that the company fired almost every one of the workers and started again.
I once heard a story that there is a cemetery in Belfast somewhere that has a 6’ high wall buried below ground level just to stop prod bodies contaminating RC bodies. If there is any truth to this, it wouldn’t surprise me one iota.
Hi
The term Paddy is degrading.
It implies stupidity.
Art is not stupid, she is gorgeous, immaculately dressed and as sharp as a razor.
She is also very well mannered and polite.
She is very reserved, but she can make mincemeat of men if she chooses to do.
The same goes for ST, though you didn’t mention her.
That is ridiculous. Each side is convinced that the other one is not only wrong and consequently will never go to heaven, but will go out of their way to injure or kill them.
I know nothing about Christianity, as I am not one, but neither of the two sound remotely like Christians.
The feeling I get is that they should build a large football stadium with two opposite entrances. Admit equal numbers on each side: one for Protestants and the other for Catholics, permit weapons of any description, then blow a whistle and let them at each other.
With a bit of luck every one of the arrogant murderers will succeed and rid the country of the problem that is damaging it.
Thank you, JBR.
The PROBLEM is that Fenian terrorists supported by America and Eire are attacking British people in their British homeland.
That is true and we sent soldiers to try to keep the peace.
Unfortunately, our legal people and government punished the soldiers for doing their job.
Now they’re beginning to wonder why not many young people want to join the army.
