That’s great then.
I tried that with rhubarb leaves like that and it smelled horrible, it made me feel sick.
took my mid layer off, and enjoyed the sunshine, maybe shorts next time
I’ve never tried that with rhubarb leaves. Actually nettles are not so bad. Comfrey is good. I only try this on the lottie as there is plenty of space and if the neighbours are irritating. Very useful for that!
Did some more weeding and helped hubby pull the ivy off the back wall on the other side.
Lots of weeding done here, too. Wow, if only my flower plants would grow at the same rate as those nasty, tough weeds!
This morning was strimming. Fitted the metal brush cutting blades as there is less spray back of bits of foliage and its better at slicing through dense clumps of grass. But to get the strimmer more effective at attacking the brambles, I’ve taken the guard off. Yes, it is a bit dangerous. However it is deeply satisfying to cut back a metre or two of clumps of brambles.
did u?
This afternoon I have been weeding the garden and getting it prepared for planting.
Unfortunately I can only do a bit at a time and then rest my back. Hopefully the weather will improve soon!
Switched the strimmer back to the cord and after an hour of tidying around fences, trees and paths I am an exhausted, sweaty mess. With that funny buzzing shakes in my hands from too long holding the strimmer.
Still, tomatoes are in and potatoes are coming through…
Planted up the 2 hanging baskets with trailing fuchsias, trailing geraniums and Erigeron.
Have been painting some summer shading on outside of greenhouse. Have also forked over one of the beds as tomato plants are romping away and ready to go in. Will probably plant these tomorrow. Potatoes (charlotte) are also showing strongly now but still have some more to plant!
strimming around the trees in the wild garden
Yesterday I planned to sort out 2 large window boxes, each about 12ft long. Right mess as had waited for daffs and tulips to die off. In between were some nice little cyclamen which you can now actually see. By lunchtime it was so hot out there that I had to come inside.
So today before sun got round I picked out more weeds and turned over the soil. I will add fresh compost and bedding plants at end of month.

I watched Marcus Wareing on TV doing cooking in Provence and he visited a local tomato grower who believed that not weeding around the tomato plants produces a better flavoured crop. Now last year I applied the no weeding & lift as you need them approach to my potatoes. That worked a treat. Rather than having 30 kilos of potatoes slowly going off in the cupboard, I was lifting fresh, firm potatoes until October. So this year no weeding in the tomato patch either. I’ve just saved myself a ton of back-breaking work.
Tidied up the left-hand side of the garden. Leaving the right-hand side for a month to grow into a mini meadow.
Yesterday watered the polyanthus around the path and hubby cut the grass and did some weeding. Today it’s raining so i sowed the rest of the wallflower seeds.
Potted on the Aromatico baby tomato plants grown from Asda’s ‘extra special’ range.
What a coincidence! I’ve just finished planting 14 tomato plants in pots, outside in my yard, mine are cherry tomatoes. They usually do OK. Fingers crossed.
Wishing you a prosperous growth, looking forward to hearing about your progress, I’ll be checking into this thread every now and then with updates. There’s nothing like the delicious taste of homegrown veggies.
