What have you done in the garden today?

Walked round the garden, looked at things and picked some bay leaves which I took indoors to dry. That’s it! I had a really bad back a few weeks ago and was completely out of action for over a week, so I am taking things very easy. I have been having a daily bike ride for a few days …… just a few miles.

I hope that your back gets better soon

I had a very busy half hour sitting in my neighbour’s garden - absorbing a dose of Vit D and putting the world to rights over a cup of tea!

Pricked out the rest of the Snapdragon seedlings.

Just going to cut my grass quick before I start dinner.
Then this evening I have some of my Carnivorous plants to repot if I get round to it!

Sat out and enjoyed the last of the warm weather which according to the met office is going to turn a lot cooler, blackthorn winter anyone.

Yes, I even saw sleet showers forecast for Thursday! :flushed:
I can certainly do without that with all my seedlings coming up now!

I bought 2 Erysimum and 4 Poppy plants …I got my Son to plant them .

Cleaned the pond filters and replaced the UV lamp.
It was, and always is, a messy job and I really don’t look forward to it, but the fish probably appreciate it.

Firstly, (having turned off the electricity) I have to dissemble the filter. Four little screws (which always try to drop into the undergrowth) to remove the UV lamp and replace it - two more tiny screws. Then two very tight attachments of the tubes from the (underwater) pump - a real struggle on their own.

Next, remove the top of the filter housing - again, a very tight clamp - and lift out the four filters on their carrier. I need to clean each of them using the garden hose, along with the insides of the filter housing. Absolutely filthy. I do flush through the filters most days during the warm weather, but don’t bother during the winter. They’re not difficult to clean, but unpleasant because of the slime and LEECHES! Hopefully, the latter are not the type which sucks blood from the fish, but are innocuous and live in the sediment at the bottom of the pond - where the pond pump sits.

Finally, put it all back together again.

Next March, I must persuage Marge to come and watch (or even assist) so that she’ll be able to do it when I’ve turned my toes up!

I was potting up Astibles ,only to find Weevle grubs had ate all of the roots , all what was left on one was a stump,so that went in the bin ,and I flattened the nasty grubs,
Checked my other two Asibles and the roots looked healthy .
