I’m just about to start ‘Benediction’ by Kent Haruf which is the last book in a trilogy. I very much enjoyed the first two, Plainsong and Eventide, and thought them beautifully written with wonderful characterisation. Highly recommended.
I’ve just finished reading ‘After I’ve gone’ by Linda Green. It was unputdownable.
It starts where Jess, this happy easy going young woman reads an obituary thread dedicated to herself on Face book. Looking at the date she sees it is 18 months into the future…
I am reading “Heroes of the Frontier” by Dave Eggars. A very descriptive, amusing story of a woman and her two children who escape civilisation by going to Alaska.
Whilst in my local town yesterday my daughter and I called in a charity shop and bought four books each, so plenty of reading in the coming weeks, plus the freebies I download on Kindle.
That book sounds interesting CeeCee. I’ll be interested to know your verdict once you’ve finished it.
I’m almost at the end of The General by CS Forester and finding it both well written and interesting. The central character is an officer who gains rapid promotion during the First World War which gives a very good backdrop. I hadn’t heard about the book until recently when I read somewhere that it was the favourite book of General Kelly, Trump’s Chief if Staff so thought I’d give it a go.

I read this 30 years ago, but due to my memory loss it’s like reading it for the 1st time. My wife, with her charming mispronunciation of the English language, often said, “You got All-chimers”.
Behind closed doors by B A Paris was one of the best books I’ve ever read. The suspense was so unbearable I stayed up till 3 in the morning to finish the book off.
I’m now reading this authors second novel. It’s called ‘The Break Down.’

I’m reading Death in the Air a true story about London’s deadly smog and a serial killer in 1952 by Kate Winkler Dawson.
I can highly recommend it.
I’ve begun 4 3 2 1 by Paul Auster.
Now reading Deep Freeze by John Sandford, one of my favourite US authors.
Just finished The Mountain Between Us by Charles Martin.
Having read the risible film reviews and learnt how the film makers altered the story and thereby ruined it… I’m so glad I read the book instead!!
Had they kept rigidly to the book it may have stood a chance.

Very funny and an acute social commentary.
The second miss Seeton book, she’s like miss Marple with a stout umbrella and I only had to buy book one as the author kindly sent me book two free.
Just finished “The Weight of Water” by Anita Shreve. Set in 1873 on an island off New Hampshire and the murder of two fishermen’s wives. A century later a female photographer sets out to research the story. Not a bad book, quite intriguing.
Am now about to start “The Dead Tracks” by Tim Weaver about a missing seventeen year old girl.
Thank goodness for charity shop bookshelves.
Am now reading Law And Disorder: Inside the dark heart of murder by John Douglas and Mark Olshaker.
Quite scholarly true crime book.
Just finished Lucy Worseley’s A Very British Murder and am starting The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins. Have to say, I like his writing style.
I’ve just started The Luminaries by Elinor Catton. Intriguing so far
I have just finished Two Kinds of Truth by the American thriller writer Michael Connelly. Absolutely brilliant.
If you don’t know this writer, you have a treat in store.
He writes detective thrillers about Los Angeles Police Department, and the skill of the writing is amazing.
Now I am re reading the Poldark saga. I just love them, as you see from my user name.

The theme of white supremacy and rampant racism in the US.
Very sensitively handled, a real eye opener.
