We are having Salmon Salad today - No Beans!!
A few observances about beans; why do they taste nicer cold straight out of the tin? When heating always remember that done in a pan on the stove, the sauce thickens up, but does not do so in the microwave, and a little tip here, always store them upside down, that way they ‘settle’ at the top of the can leaving surplus sauce at what is now the bottom, making it easier to decant from the tin.
Sorry to say this SJ, but according to the doc on ‘Embarassing Bodies’ we all, each and every one of us, pass an average of 1litre of gas a day.
Bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes (for me) with an egg and beans, a buttered roll, lashings of ketchup and lots of black coffee.
I hate it when my freezers are full! Too much ruddy choice and then by the time we decide it is often too late to defrost for today.
Plan meals 24 hours in advance and defrost overnight DM
Knob of butter, and a good splodge of Black pepper, then on hot buttered toast, easy peasy comfort food.
We’ve got two ready-meals today but we don’t care!
We always check the ingredients, fat, salt etcetera and these two passed - so that’s it as far as we are concerned!
Could we do it ourselves with the ingredients?
No bloody-way!
So why bother or feel guilty when you’ve done your best, analysed the contents and made your decision - and it costs you just under £6 for a decent meal for two?!
I’ve no doubt that someone could indeed counter that with a wealth of info from alternative sources but by the time I’ve factored-in the costs is it really worth the agro?!! stevmk2
Yes you are right Daisymay, I heard it myself on the TV that everyone passes wind at least 15 times a day, you probably don’t even know that you are doing it that much.
That was a good tip Daisymay about storing the can of beans upside down in the cupboard, I will try and remember that.
I thought that is a brilliant idea, Daisy, so I told my wife about it. She said ‘I store them right way up and open the bottom.’![]()
Nothing wrong with that Steve, it’s only when people only use them they become a problem IMO some people have forgotten how to cook which is quite scary really.
We have a chicken, marrow and leeks, with roast potatoes for meat eater today, and I will have vegetables in a cheesy sauce might pinch a roastie to go with it see how I feel this evening.
Now why didn’t I think of that!?
Because sometimes thinking what to have tomorrow, after having just eaten is a pain in the butt that’s why. However yesterday removed a couple of Sea Bream for today, and two huge lamb shoulder chops for tomorrow. Now, what to have with? Hmm?
I used to love stuffed marrow as a kid, rarely think to do it as a grown up, and have never thought of of it as a stand alone veg.
I have never understood why men find farting so funny…they never seem to get over it…![]()
Love marrow as a veg, my husband reckons it tastes of nothing though LOL
I can remember when we were kids and Nan had run out of money before she ran out of week we would have marrow sandwiches with gravy and never felt we had missed out on anything.
Well it is generally acknowledged that men tend to reach puberty and ‘get stuck’ maintaining that mind set for several decades, after which some actually do attain a certain level of maturity while others, sadly, do not. Part of that is, unfortunately an obsession with all bodily functions.
Sorry Julie have to agree with your hubby on this one, marrow will ‘take’ up the flavour of other stuff, which is one of the reasons why in the war it was used as a substitute in jams.
As marrow is mainly water did your sandwiches not just dissolve?
I would have thought it would be quite wet in a sandwich.
I like my Marrow fried with Indian spices on it.
Just had Curry and Rice for dinner.
Yes it was wet especially covered in gravy but it was filling and cheap which was why we had it.
Back to what is for dinner, last night, or evening, we had pan fried sea Bream tasty, with shallow fried thinly sliced Charlotte pots.
Earlier I had gone into town then missed my last bus by the skin of me teeth, so phoned my son to pick me up at Tesco on his way home (only place open for coffee at that time). While having a quick wander to get milk and bread I had a peek in the reduced sections and picked up a tray of potato Dauphinoise for 55 p, bazinga, so after a bit of a think remembered we had some horseshoe gammon steaks in freezer, so, along with yet to be decided veg, that is tomorrow (or for anyone pedantic later today) sorted. May even shove a rice pudding in the oven too
