What are you having for lunch/dinner? (Part 1)

Today we are having Chicken breast, Roast dinner.

Roast beef and all the veg that is left in the fridge.
(one carrot, one parsnip, cauli and broccoli florets and pots.)

Celeriac, cabbage, carrots, courgettes with pork sausages for the meat eater and veggie ones for me.

Today Im being taken out for lunch by neighbours as a thankyou for looking after thier house when they arnt here … So Im looking forward to a nice pudding havnt had a pudding for ages as rarely make then for my self.

Steak, Kidney and mushroom casserole with fresh parsnips, carrots, leeks and potatoes and a piece of mississippi mud pie for ‘afters’.

Will have to rummage in the freezer for today’s meal. Can’t get a blade of grass in it (well, maybe), and really must use up what’s in there, and not to keep going out buying fresh meals all the time!

UJ, I looked into the possibility of home delivery but the minimum spend is about £35. I couldn’t spend that in one go! I go for the cheaper supermarket(s) and try to keep to a low budget. Only once in a while do I go a bit mad and think, oh dammit, let’s have a few good meals!

Waiting for my SSP payments to start (the hospital 4 week sick note didn’t get sent to Payroll till 26 April, but they’ve had it since 8 April…so payments should start this Friday, weekly), so as I’m using my savings I’d better not head for supermarkets just yet.

You can bet your life that if plaster cast comes off this Friday and I’m fit to drive, I will do a mega shop!

Janet darlin’ - yes there is a minimum spend - but down here Sainsburys minimum is only £25.00 and since I have a good appetite, can get through £25.00 very easily.

Oh ok! I was looking at Asda but I’ll look at Sainsbury’s. however, I also find them quite expensive and much prefer Morrisons…who have yet to join in the home delivery network.

Yes, £25 min order, plus £6.25(?) delivery charge. Hmmmm…

Janet darlin’ - wouldn’t you spend that much (£6.25) in either petrol for the car or bus fares to and from the supermarket and the hassle of going round the aisles and then carrying it all back home again??? -

£6.50 ? unless you are driving some mega bus no it doesn’t cost that much to get to the supermarket here. And I see it as a bit of exercise walking around the store and bringing it all up the stairs when I get home. 3 or 4 times up and down the stairs is good for me.

Maybe for you Julie, but since I (must) carry a walking stick, I am then somewhat hampered in the amount of shopping bags I can carry. Far simpler and far more convenient for me to have it delivered to me, and what is more, they do not deposit it on my doorstep, but actually bring it into my kitchen for me.

I only order heavy stuff about once each month . I get lots of milk and freeze it. Tesco Multi seeded batch loaf only 99p about 6 loaves and freeze them. Bottles of pop, sauces and tins and a large bag of taters.

I then can wander around Morrisons, Tesco or Asda never Sainsbury and pick up some specials or reduced stuff and fruit and veg. The delivery is usually £3.50 I would never pay £6.50 and it saves wear and tear on my poor old knees and poor hubs.

Hey I am on crutches doesn’t stop me though.

Only time I have problems is if I am in my wheel chair, then I need help, still make it round the shop though as that’s level ground. It’s only the stairs I have trouble with.

So whilst on crutches, how do you manage to carry supermarket basket/trolley around the aisles??? and having made your purchases, how, with both arms clutching handles of crutches do you manage to transport those purchases from the supermarket check-out to your home???

I put my crutches in the trolley and use the trolley as a walker. Actually get along better with a trolley than my crutches.

Up stairs I sit on the steps pulling my bags up behind me.

I won’t pretend it’s easy but what in life is easy ? We have to make the effort IMO or lose any ability to move around at all.

Only time I have failed was when I went blind for a couple of months that taught me get on while you can as life can be much worse than just having dodgy shaky painful legs.

I have a 4 wheel or a pull along 2 wheel trolley, and use either one depending on which s/mkt I go to. Once I took the 4 wheel one to Morrisons by bus and wanted to put it in the locker but they were all full. I then had to pull it and push the small s/m trolley (with my body), and everybody just wanted to get in my way!!! Hated it.

Then I got drenched getting off the bus near home as I didn’t have free hand to hold an umbrella. But saying that, I really do love wandering around the stores. Would rather that than a home delivery.

Reading the last few pages of posts was beginning to think had clicked on wrong thread, but no, this is “what’s for dinner” so tonight we are having gammon steaks (four for £4 at Tesco) cauliflower cheese (using about half a huge and reduced to £1 cauli again Tesco)tinned chopped toms, plain boiled potatoes. Am using my favourite Maris Pipers so they will become all floury and absorb both the spread I will put on and the juice from the tomatoes.

Got some vegetarian bacon bits made of quorn, going to use that to make a quiche also using courgettes and mushrooms in the filling (using grated cauliflower in stead of pastry). Not done that before so fingers crossed LOL

We had lovely Cod and Chips from the Chippy today.
