Good question - who can we ask gal…? Anyone here know…?:-p
Yes me I sat and thought really hard, it was cos long a go when anything came from Asia it was called Turkish hence when an American fowl was shipped from Asia it was called Turkey coq. in’t that brilliant, in Turkey it’s called Hindi, but I’ve forgotten why.
So what’s Appach potatoes Hazel ?
I’ve never heard of 'em !
They’re a new potato, with red skins with white splotches on, you cook it unpeeled very tasty. Got them from Tesco.
Oh … I thought it was a new way of cooking 'em, I’m currently cooking and enjoying a lot of ‘fondant’ potatoes
they look interesting I’ve got some Desire potatoes in will give that a go with lamb chop tomorrow.
Well done Hazel ! :-p
Sorry, I Googled it, same as I did fondant potatoes, don’t want to look daft do I?? Though I’m sure some think I am. ![]()

That was the explanation and it makes sense when you think about it, not sure about the Hindi though.
I can’t see the connection with Apache Indians I wonder if they were really called patchy potatoes and someone misunderstood, easy to do I suppose.:-)![]()
Well at least you were interested enough to Google it !
Glad you did - interesting…![]()
After I left the ‘vampire’ clinic this afternoon, popped next door into the supermarket to buy something for Sunday lunch. Saw a nice Pork joint, so also bought a large bottle of cider. Pork cooked in cider in my slow cooker on Saturday night. Luverly!!!
Chicken and some nice herb salad tonight.
Today we had…
Pan-fried pork chops with fondant potatoes, spring greens, mixed green salad and gravy!
A bit of a mixture I know but it’s what was available
Omelette with grated cheese, onions and mushrooms inside it, with cubed ovenbaked potatoes and peas.
I shall blame you if I don’t like this cos it sounds fanciable :-D:-D:-D
Gammon steak and salad today
Further to Hazel’s response about ‘Turkey’s’ I saw something on t.v. over Christmas (may have been foodie prog, may even have been QI) which explained that originally there was a bird found in Asia (forget its name but recall something about it having a ‘bony protuberance’ on its head) and which was exported via the country of Turkey. These were first known as Turkey Birds, and eventually simply turkey. Then later when the bird which we know today as a turkey, was discovered in America and brought over here it was considered to be very similar both in looks and taste, and people began to also refer to it as, a turkey. Eventually the original ‘turkey’ lost popularity and disappeared and the American bird became universally known as a turkey.
