Of course it can Uncle Joe, we never have dumplings with our stew/casseroles … no-one here likes them! ![]()
Mags darlin’ - stew is not a ‘proper’ stew unless it has suet dumplings in - they’re fabulous!!! and real rib-stickers.
I like suet dumplings as well.
We are having Chicken Breasts cooked in a spicy tomato sauce, vegs. and roast potatoes.
Should have been with me yesterday Susie darlin’ - met up with my Sister & B-i-L for lunch in a pub in the centre of town. I had home-made steal & Kidney (Suet) Pudding and veg - it was fabulous and just the job to keep out the cold and wet (and was it wet yesterday!!!), in fact hasn’t stopped raining yet and everywhere around me (at the bottom of the hill) is flooded.
Hi UJ, I love steak & kidney suet pudding, one of my favourites.
Yes it’s been raining here all day, still is. My rear garden is getting flooded, especially outside my back door, as I live right at the bottom of a big hill, the very last house.
Looks like you need to start bailing Susie darlin’
I had Yorkshire Puddings with it (three of them ) which I made myself.
It tasted too good to put into words.
Hmmmmm - Yorkshire puds with a normal roast, not sure they go so well with a stew as they would tend to get soggy in the gravy, dumplings are far better !!!
I hate kidney, to me whatever you do with them, however you prepare them, they taste of what they do!! I had a friend who always made Yorkshire with chicken, and served roast pork with mint sauce, all a matter of taste I suppose. Now me, I serve sausages in one of three ways, either with really creamy mash and baked beans, or chips and beans (blame the offspring sausages usually = beans), or with a rich extremely oniony gravy, sprouts, swedey mash and Yorkshire. But NOT toad in the hole.
I must admit, I love Yorkshire Puddings, but as Uncle Joe says, not in a stew on a Roast!!
Sausages with onion, peppers and mushroom gravy with lovely creamy mash and spring greens. I’m not having it but I love it or liver with same come to that. can do without yorkshires though. Definitely dumplings in stew.
I had microwaved chicken with chips and cauli and broccallie and hot pepper sauce.
What’s wrong with Toad-in-the-hole DM??? - its fabulous comfort food with cabbage, carrots and a delicious oniony gravy!!!
My daughter bought me a KFC and a Krush’em…yum yum
Steve matey, nice that your daughter bought you a meal and that you relished it, BUT I deplore your choice of food - wouldn’t touch 'em with a 10ft barge pole!!! - can make a far more tasty meal from raw ingredients cooked at home and for a whole lot less cost than a KFC.
Just roast chicken breasts with vegetables today.
Maybe a bacon sandwich for later.
nothing today saving my self for the trip to niagra falls
Nothing much today …but tomorrow is gonna be yummy…
I’ll start with a Honey roasted gammon sandwich for breakfast and a glass of beer …the for dinner…Glass of wine …Followed by Roast potatoes another Glass of wine , roast parsnip…Mashed potatoes…Mushy peas…and another glass of wine…roast beef…and Roast Turkey with chestnut stuffing, cranberries and bacon rolls , then some more wine …I mean champagne …then for afters i gonna have home made Xmas pudding flamed with brandy and coated with cream and brandy sauce …and another Glass a wine…then i gonna go and sit down have some more wine and a sleep whilst the wife and daughter clear up …And by the way I am the chef as well I’ll will do all the cooking
ps And not to forget …A wafer thin mint
MERRY XMAS ALL

Spare a thought for us here in the UK battling with heavy rain and floods when you next have your barbeque!
A very Happy Christmas to you and your family and all the best for 2013.
Thanks Mags, yes I will be thinking of all of you and all the rain and cold you are having , as we have been forecast a week of temperatures over 40 degrees C . !!! Starting with a 41 tomorrow , oh dear , I feel a week of salads coming on.
After "pigging out " on Christmas Eve , both my husband and I only had a plate of lovely West Australian Prawns for lunch on Christmas day , afternoon drifted into evening with Champagne and Rose drinks with neighbours , and a plate of lovely cheeses from Aus, I did buy some stilton from the UK which is the best Stilton I have ever had , called Copeland Bishop , it was absolutely yummy . Today was just Turkey and Gammon sandwiches . Happy New year to you all .
