immersion heater, hot water tank, yes.
Thanks, its gas though (again, sorry for the ignorance - its a different system from the one I had for 20 years.)
An immersion heater looks like this
I’ve had one in a few different houses, working in conjunction with a gas boiler.
We don’t have one now. We have a gas condenser boiler, they start up when you turn a hot tap on. Not advisable to wrap it up.
Mine has a pilot light and a carbon monoxide monitor. Probably best to leave it alone I think. I have a gas safety check next week, I’ll ask the guy if there is anything I can do.
One big disadvantage of hot weather is - it upsets the Cat. If he is upset … it’s time to start digging a fallout shelter!
My PC doesn’t like it either.
Not comfortable. Cats or dogs. We give Max a slice of frozen in the afternoon. A silly little tale from a long time ago. My sister and husband lived in London and they had a cat, BooBoo. Surprisingly, it loved melon. They moved to Jamaica so I inherited the cat. Now, decades later, we have Max, the melon lover.
Excurse my rambling…
I know its my own fault for moving here but we have some level of heat down here in SW France. Today has topped out at 37 deg, tomorrow is 39 deg and then Friday and Saturday should be 38 deg top temperature. This is the third properly hot heat wave of the year.
So the advantage is … you get to do nothing at all afternoon. Watching TV, reading or napping is possible on the sofa as the 3 foot stone walls of our old house keep the downstairs coolish. Upstairs it is all of the high temps of outside so a no go area until late evening.
A disadvantage is that we need to get up at 7am or earlier to walk the dogs. They love it. I’m less of a fan of the early rising.
I will be so glad when this week is over and it cools down a bit.
Hope I get some sleep tonight.
We have thundery rain forecast for next Monday, but that remains to be seen.
Despite the weirdness of no normal insects, a lack of ladybirds and a yellow lawn, it’s a relief to not have to worry about mowing and trimming hedges.
don’t know of any - we have them everyday all year around?
Advantage. Able to have a shower in the downstairs back bathroom, without feeling the cold.
The other day, l was being driven out for lunch and on the way, passed a sewage works. It was as if the roasting hot sun had boiled the sewage up as the stench was shocking. Worse, there were lots of houses near to it.
The residents must have to wear gas masks!
Grief!
And you still managed to enjoy lunch?
Hats off to you!
Thankfully, the restaurant was miles away from the sewage works!
Ironically, your meal will possibly end up there. Just saying.
That is disgusting. I wonder which was there first, the sewage place, or the houses?
I am amazed that was allowed. Bet it would never have been allowed for a sewage farm to be built next door to any of the rich and famous!
When I was a kid, there was one near our school. You could sit in the classroom and watch the big rotating arms going round and round, and some days the stench was horrendous.
I lived in Barbados for some years .
The dump there nicknamed Mount Stinkaroo overlooks the exclusive Sandy Lane .
The smell depends on which way the wind is blowing .
No advantages at all.
Not much more I can add.
I’ve had enough, it’s really starting to get to me. Help!!!
Good grief!
I’ve just looked out of the window… it’s actually raining
