This situation is now incredibly sad. I keep seeing that lovely man’s smiling picture in news reports. His kind eyes just make it heartbreaking what they have done. I hope it makes some of the silent Republican senators realise that this has all gone too far.
Quite… hardly a threat
I feel the same AnnieS … he looks a lovely bloke who ran to help a woman who had been shoved to the ground and it cost him his life.
Pepper sprayed, repeatedly hit in the head and then shot dead.
Absolutely terrible.
What’s really disturbing is how Trump and his administration are blatantly lying about what happened (as they did with Renee Good). Everyone (anyone with even a single brain cell) can see for themselves he was just trying to help that woman from getting hit around by Trump’s thugs:
Trump and all of his supporters and enablers are the filth of this world and and humanity would be better off without them.
Again, billionaires are to blame - they’ve dumbed down the population by poisoning everyone with all the crap in our food, air and water, and everything else they’ve been doing to keep themselves in power and people subjugated. We need a revolution and we need one before it’s too late.
I’ve only just discovered that ICE officers get a $50,000 bonus just for joining up …
It makes them sound like Bounty Hunters
theres some incredibly patronising border patrol (commander?) on tv making a live address about their “work” making minneapolis and America a “safer” place. I am trying to figure out why they have the police or FBI if it’s now the job of ICE to keep the streets safe.
Nothing on netflix is quite as shocking as the real life events happening to ordinary people in the US. In Britain we are seeing a very tame version of events vs some international news channels. Some of the utter chaos looks like war has broken out then you have to pinch yourself when you realise these are the streets of the USA, the up until now apparent “good guy”, land of the free etc.
Edited to add that the Minnesota Governor Tim Walz giving a separate (normal life, normal people) briefing now is making exactly the same point as I have. He is saying that these ICE people should not see their role as law enforcement, because the state already has perfectly adequate law enforcement services in place. Where are the Republican senators hiding? Walz is making some really emotive points. He has just accused Trump of gaslighting the whole country.
Is the US going to end up having another civil war at this rate?
Mostly the big guy is trying to control Demo States with dreamt up crap.
Chicago, one of the hardest places for firearm owners and Ammo. Even
The Pawn shops shiver with fear of state laws. Mosty Big Demo Cities have
stolen firearms carried into them and sold on the street from Repub. states.
That is a no brainer fact of life.
But it’s the Drugs the kids are ingesting that’s the problem, many are prescribed by medics.
Basically, it’s a Boss’s envisaged attempt to control the Vote, control, control, control, also the people
who have legally immigrated. Hope his is here legally.
What did he say? “Who’s your daddy!”
Appalling behaviour of those ICE officers, many of whom are said to have had no training for this job. They act as if they’ve never heard of a proportionate response. There were four or five ICEmen fighting with the victim and they considered it appropriate to shoot the victim already lying on the ground ten times, an overkill.
Certainly no coincidence that in pro-Trump circles elsewhere not this Guardian vid is posted but a CNN one (a channel that they usually ignore), in which the sound is partly muted so that viewers can’t hear how many shots are pumped into an already motionless victim. Trump supporters elsewhere heap all the blame on the victim and justify the overkill with the fact that he’d brought a fully-loaded gun plus two extra mag’s rounds. Not sure if this has been verified? For them the victim was a potential attacker since no one would go to a demo armed.
Intressting its only happening in one State.
ICE is having very little trouble in the other 49.
Trump should call up the Insurrection Act and jail Walz
Because our media is only reporting one state at the moment. All the protests are peaceful, but for some reason in Minnesota ICE attacked a male ICU nurse taking a video of their antics and killed him. Perhaps the unit in Minnesota is particularly poorly trained?
They have probably been trained playing violent online games rather than how to deal with real life situations.
I understand that they sign up for 5 years and the $50k is actually paid at $10k a year. And if they leave before the end of 5 years then they contractually have to pay back all the bonuses they’ve been given. Which at first glance makes me laugh as the idiots who signed up clearly did not read the small print.
Then I worked out that 5 years is longer than Trump’s term of office - which means this administration has no intention of handing over power when Trump’s presidency should end.
Intresting.
Under Obama they deported over 2 million.
And not one riot.
@Galty, you haven’t kept up with what’s happening all across America!
The current list of cities where ICE is operating looks like this: Minneapolis, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Phoenix, Denver, and Atlanta, Houston, Pittsburgh, San Diego, and more.
In my small village in upstate New York of 6,000 residents, ICE came last fall to one of our public parks, where children have playgrounds, slides, picnic tables.
In the middle of the afternoon, ICE agents came and arrested four of our people who worked for a reputable roofing company, without justification or reasons!
Don’t begin to say Trump or any of his minions have a right to disrupt and terrorize us at their beck and call.
I think you have identified the problem (whilst putting forward a lie).
The lie is this claim of riots. There has only been peaceful protest and legal observing and filming. The two people killed by ICE agents were not rioting.
The problem today is the approach being taken being taken by ICE. Aggression, detaining without warrants, random grabbing of people based in racial profiling, aggression to anyone observing their actions. This is enabled and supported by the Trump administration when they stated that ICE agents have complete immunity - that is, they can do whatever they want. In effect, this is a militia aiming to instill fear and insecurity in the population.
Obama decided that such a militia was not needed and still got that 2 million deported and decided that the behaviours ICE are now demonstrating are wholly unwanted.
Which quickly identifies the problem - Trump.
I thought the Danes invaded England and stole this country in 1013, now they gripe as somebody wants theirs. Not that it matters, as Greenland is nine times larger than all of the UK and has a useless population about the size of a tiny town that does nothing of use with it, and never will. Good thinking by Trump.
The Anglo-Saxon (German / Danish area) invasion of Britain started in the 4th century AD. The Vikings (Sweden / Norway / Denmark) arrived 8th century. The Normans (French but of Viking descent) came in 1066. The bigger land grabbing came from the 16th century onward - UK taking most of Northern America, Spain taking most of South America, then Holland taking great lumps of Asia and UK taking India. Perhaps the UK, France and Spain should get the US back?
By the way Canada is nearer Greenland than the US is - so a joint Canada / Denmark care of Greenland makes most sense. Trump can butt out.
perhaps they operated within a legal framework rather than sending in the tanks?
That doesn’t actually sound a bad idea ![]()
