It reminds me, too, although the victims aren’t children.
This may be just gossip (for money) but it may be, OTOH, not:
Appearing on CNN, former White House Communications Director Alyssa Farah Griffin said she had seen “countless cases” of what she considers “impropriety” in the White House that she reported to Trump’s various chiefs of staff, including Mark Meadows.
When Tapper specifically asked Farah if she informed Meadows or other chiefs of staff about instances she witnessed of “Donald Trump behaving inappropriately with women,” she said she did and so did former White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham.
Grisham, whose books included examples of Trump’s alleged harassment of women in the White House, later appeared on CNN and confirmed Farah’s claims.
Speaking to CNN anchor Erin Burnett, Grisham said she had spoken to several different chiefs of staff, including Meadows, about Trump’s behavior, but she thought there wasn’t much they could do other than tell him, “This isn’t good, sir.”
Saying, “Donald Trump will do what Donald Trump wants to do,” Grisham reiterated Trump’s alleged lewd remarks about a specific female staffer whom she claims she had to try and protect—repeating a claim she made in her book.
Grisham said Trump had asked one of her deputies to bring the female staffer on his trips “so that they could look at her ass.”
Mr. Trump, in response to questions from the CNN moderator about the Manhattan jury’s verdict Tuesday, called Ms. Carroll a “wack job” and said her civil trial was “a rigged deal.”
Ms. Carroll, 79, is now weighing whether to file a new defamation lawsuit against Mr. Trump, said her lawyer, Roberta A. Kaplan. In addition to the case that ended Tuesday, Ms. Carroll has an earlier defamation suit against Mr. Trump, 76, that is still pending. Mr. Trump has argued in that case that he cannot be sued because he made those comments in his official capacity as president.
It seems that nothing will stop the torrents of offence and abuse that are discharged from Trump’s buccal cavity …
Neither Biden nor Trump is viewed positively on questions of honesty and trustworthiness, but Trump, who has lied repeatedly in claiming the 2020 election was rife with fraud and therefore stolen, is seen more negatively. Today, 33 percent say Trump is honest and trustworthy while 63 percent say he is not. In comparison, 41 percent say Biden is honest and trustworthy while 54 percent say he is not.
Biden handed thousands of Afghan women and children over to be raped and murdered by the Taliban and removed their rights to an education. He even gave them billions of dollars of tax payer funded weapons and military equipment. Then these same people tell you Trump is a misoginyst and a war mongerer
Ex-President Donald Trump can be held liable for disparaging comments he made about a woman who accused him of rape, the US Department of Justice has said. The decision boosts E Jean Carroll’s defamation lawsuit against Mr Trump.
In May, Mr Trump was ordered to pay the former magazine columnist $5m (£3.9m) after being found liable for sexual abuse of her in 1996 at a New York department store.
Ms Carroll, 79, is currently seeking $10m from Mr Trump in a defamation lawsuit, which is due to go to trial in January. The legal action cites his remarks as president about her in 2019 while responding to reporters’ questions. The lawsuit has been updated to reflect further comments he made about her during a CNN town hall the day after the court’s verdict two months ago.
The justice department had previously taken the position that Mr Trump could be defended by government attorneys because he was serving in his capacity as president when he made the remarks. But on Tuesday its lawyers said “there is no longer a sufficient basis to conclude that the former president was motivated by ‘more than an insignificant’ desire to serve the United States Government”.
In a letter filed with the judge presiding over the case, the justice department wrote that “Mr Trump was motivated by a ‘personal grievance’ stemming from events that occurred many years prior to Mr Trump’s presidency”. The justice department said that though Mr Trump’s comments were made via official channels, the accusation that prompted the statements were in regards “to a purely personal incident: an alleged sexual assault that occurred decades prior to Mr Trump’s presidency”.
Ms Carroll’s lawyer welcomed the justice department’s reconsideration. “We have always believed that Donald Trump made his defamatory statements about our client in June 2019 out of personal animus, ill will, and spite, and not as president of the United States,” said Roberta A Kaplan.
Donnie will get his just rewards for his dirty deeds. We only have to be patient and wait. It is something most of us are looking forward to here in the states.
A federal judge has dismissed Donald Trump’s request for a new trial in a civil case in which a jury found him liable for sexually abusing and defaming columnist E Jean Carroll.
Mr Trump was ordered to pay $5m (£3.9m) in damages, which he argued was excessive based on the jury’s verdict.
Mr Trump’s attorneys had argued in their bid for a new trial that “the Court should order a new trial on damages or grant remittitur because contrary to Plaintiff’s claim of rape, the Jury found that she was not raped but was sexually abused by defendant during the 1995/1996 Bergdorf Goodman incident.”
In a 59-page decision on Wednesday, US District judge Lewis Kaplan ruled the jury did not reach “a seriously erroneous result”, in calculating the amount of damages, as argued by Mr Trump’s lawyers, and dismissed his request for a new trial.
Roberta Kaplan, the lawyer representing E Jean Carroll, said her client looks forward to “continuing to hold Trump accountable” in a further defamation trial scheduled to begin early next year. Ms Carroll has sued Mr Trump for $10m (£7.7m) for statements he made in 2019 that she claims are defamatory.
In an order Monday, Judge Lewis Kaplan said that Trump had not proven that Carroll’s statements on CNN the day after the jury awarded her $5 million after finding that Trump sexually abused Carroll and defamed her were false or “not at least substantially true,” which is the legal standard.
Trump sued Carroll in June based on her response to questions posed on CNN. Carroll was asked about the verdict finding Trump sexually abused Carroll, but did not rape her as defined under New York law and as she alleged. Carroll said, “Oh, yes he did.”
In throwing out Trump’s lawsuit, the judge wrote, “Indeed, the jury’s verdict in Carroll II establishes, as against Mr Trump, the fact that Mr Trump ‘raped her’, albeit digitally rather than with his penis. Thus, it establishes against him the substantial truth of Ms Carroll’s ‘rape’ accusations.”
The judge previously rejected Trump’s request for a new trial.
Trump is set to go to trial in January on another defamation lawsuit brought by Carroll in 2019 for statements Trump made while he was president. That case was tied up in legal issues while the lawsuit brought under the Adult Survivors Act (known as Carroll II) went to trial in May, resulting in the $5 million award.
The former president has also appealed that jury’s verdict and other “adverse” rulings.
Donald Trump’s forthcoming civil trial, set for January, over comments he made in 2019 about the writer E Jean Carroll and her allegation that he raped her will only concern how much more he has to pay, a judge said on Wednesday, ruling that the comments were were already adjudged libelous.
In his ruling on Wednesday, US district court judge Lewis Kaplan said: “The jury [in the first trial] considered and decided issues that are common to both cases – including whether Mr Trump falsely accused Ms Carroll of fabricating her sexual assault charge and, if that were so, that he did it with knowledge that this accusation was false” or acted with reckless disregard for the truth.
That’ll be more millions for Trump to pay Carroll …
Trump ranted on Truth Social on Wednesday about the “unconstitutional” nature of the Adult Survivors Act, a New York law enacted in May 2022 that allows victims of sexual assault to file civil suits no matter if the statute of limitations expired. The act is what allowed Carroll to sue Trump for sexual assault.
The former president wrote:
“I hope that Mayor Eric Adam’s, Andrew Cuomo, and all of the others that got sued based on this ridiculous law where someone can be sued decades later, and with no proof, will fight it on being totally unfair and UNCONSTITUTIONAL. I got sued, decades later (she has no idea when her made up event took place!), by a woman - I HAD NO IDEA WHO SHE WAS. It was a made up fairytale that was brought and funded by political operatives for purposes of Election Interference.”
Trump’s social media post could land him in even more hot water as legal experts told Newsweek that there is no limit to how many times Carroll can sue Trump for defamation.
“Trump can be sued every time he defames her, through his speeches and written words. Each successive case becomes easier for Carroll’s lawyers to win,” Dave Aronberg, the State Attorney for Palm Beach County, Florida, told Newsweek, adding that “Groundhog Day is becoming quite expensive for the former president.”
