USA : Donald Trump v E Jean Carroll - New : Judge limits second E Jean Carroll trial to damages

Well, if you’re caught on a recording boasting that you like grabbing women’s pussies and they let you ‘cos you’re powerful …

…. then you’re going to have a devil of a job proving yourself innocent when someone accuses you of just that?

That’s a lot of women accusing him and this jury, thought he did it

Are they all genuine, who knows?

that’s for the US legal system,

but it does remind me of Jimmy Saville and all the cases we heard about once Pandora’s box was opened

Would you say the same about Harvey Weinstein?

the ones who have fox news on 24/7?

I can’t believe we have to see this oaf on the TV screens here again. Are we going to have to listen to his narcissistic rants for the next 18 months? He makes me sick. He’s incredibly rude and foul mouthed.

It reminds me, too, although the victims aren’t children.

This may be just gossip (for money) but it may be, OTOH, not:

Appearing on CNN, former White House Communications Director Alyssa Farah Griffin said she had seen “countless cases” of what she considers “impropriety” in the White House that she reported to Trump’s various chiefs of staff, including Mark Meadows.

When Tapper specifically asked Farah if she informed Meadows or other chiefs of staff about instances she witnessed of “Donald Trump behaving inappropriately with women,” she said she did and so did former White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham.

Grisham, whose books included examples of Trump’s alleged harassment of women in the White House, later appeared on CNN and confirmed Farah’s claims.

Speaking to CNN anchor Erin Burnett, Grisham said she had spoken to several different chiefs of staff, including Meadows, about Trump’s behavior, but she thought there wasn’t much they could do other than tell him, “This isn’t good, sir.”

Saying, “Donald Trump will do what Donald Trump wants to do,” Grisham reiterated Trump’s alleged lewd remarks about a specific female staffer whom she claims she had to try and protect—repeating a claim she made in her book.

Grisham said Trump had asked one of her deputies to bring the female staffer on his trips “so that they could look at her ass.”

The thing is, none of this is new. White House staff were quitting because of how they were treated when he was President. Nothing changed.

Not the ones deranged over the horrible orange man.

Going well on CNN too - watch all the videos and listen to the audience. Especially about the sex abuse allegation.

Mr. Trump, in response to questions from the CNN moderator about the Manhattan jury’s verdict Tuesday, called Ms. Carroll a “wack job” and said her civil trial was “a rigged deal.”

Ms. Carroll, 79, is now weighing whether to file a new defamation lawsuit against Mr. Trump, said her lawyer, Roberta A. Kaplan. In addition to the case that ended Tuesday, Ms. Carroll has an earlier defamation suit against Mr. Trump, 76, that is still pending. Mr. Trump has argued in that case that he cannot be sued because he made those comments in his official capacity as president.

It seems that nothing will stop the torrents of offence and abuse that are discharged from Trump’s buccal cavity … :man_shrugging:

Trump will win this on appeal, you watch.

So he thinks it’s appropriate to call people a “wack” job in his official capacity as president?

Not much gravitas or respect for the office of president there then?

Much like Johnson, he’s a vulgar man who thinks he can get away with any bad and disrespectful behaviour

And they both brought shame and embarrassment on their countries internationally that their people would vote for and tolerate such men as leaders

He doesn’t shower with his daughter or do creepy hair sniffing with kids though.

Why are you not outraged about Biden ? All Trump does is tell it how it is and straight talk. It’s about time we had some undiluted home truths.

Appeal he might; that will be final; unless he goes to Supreme court for a review.

I don’t think this case has made any difference to Trumps ratings. In fact they’ve increased as another stunt by the democrats back-fires on them.

Neither Biden nor Trump is viewed positively on questions of honesty and trustworthiness, but Trump, who has lied repeatedly in claiming the 2020 election was rife with fraud and therefore stolen, is seen more negatively. Today, 33 percent say Trump is honest and trustworthy while 63 percent say he is not. In comparison, 41 percent say Biden is honest and trustworthy while 54 percent say he is not.

How accurate are polls, both are dodgy.

It was rife with fraud

Biden handed thousands of Afghan women and children over to be raped and murdered by the Taliban and removed their rights to an education. He even gave them billions of dollars of tax payer funded weapons and military equipment. Then these same people tell you Trump is a misoginyst and a war mongerer

Ex-President Donald Trump can be held liable for disparaging comments he made about a woman who accused him of rape, the US Department of Justice has said. The decision boosts E Jean Carroll’s defamation lawsuit against Mr Trump.

In May, Mr Trump was ordered to pay the former magazine columnist $5m (£3.9m) after being found liable for sexual abuse of her in 1996 at a New York department store.

Ms Carroll, 79, is currently seeking $10m from Mr Trump in a defamation lawsuit, which is due to go to trial in January. The legal action cites his remarks as president about her in 2019 while responding to reporters’ questions. The lawsuit has been updated to reflect further comments he made about her during a CNN town hall the day after the court’s verdict two months ago.

The justice department had previously taken the position that Mr Trump could be defended by government attorneys because he was serving in his capacity as president when he made the remarks. But on Tuesday its lawyers said “there is no longer a sufficient basis to conclude that the former president was motivated by ‘more than an insignificant’ desire to serve the United States Government”.

In a letter filed with the judge presiding over the case, the justice department wrote that “Mr Trump was motivated by a ‘personal grievance’ stemming from events that occurred many years prior to Mr Trump’s presidency”. The justice department said that though Mr Trump’s comments were made via official channels, the accusation that prompted the statements were in regards “to a purely personal incident: an alleged sexual assault that occurred decades prior to Mr Trump’s presidency”.

Ms Carroll’s lawyer welcomed the justice department’s reconsideration. “We have always believed that Donald Trump made his defamatory statements about our client in June 2019 out of personal animus, ill will, and spite, and not as president of the United States,” said Roberta A Kaplan.

Common sense prevails … :+1:

This is what happens with a politicised judicial system.

It will backfire, it always does.

Donnie will get his just rewards for his dirty deeds. We only have to be patient and wait. It is something most of us are looking forward to here in the states.
