US Space Force mocked for unveiling camouflage uniforms

The US Space Force has defended its newly unveiled camouflage uniforms after they were roundly mocked on social media.

The force, officially launched by US President Donald Trump last month, posted a picture of the uniform to its Twitter account.

The uniform in the picture has a woodland camouflage design with badges embroidered on the arm and chest.

Reacting to the uniform, many critics had the same question: “Camo in space?”

What is the “Space Force”?

Space Force: Trump officially launches new US military service

21 December 2019

The new military service, the first in more than 70 years, falls under the US Air Force.

At an army base near Washington, Mr Trump described space as “the world’s newest war-fighting domain”.

“Amid grave threats to our national security, American superiority in space is absolutely vital,” he said.

“The Space Force will help us deter aggression and control the ultimate high ground,” he added.

There’s lots more “detail” …

That is pretty silly. I would have thought something in black would have been better, perhaps with sparkly bits.

Maybe something like this LD. Your very own Klingon Outfit! :-):-)

Sonnink like the Star Trek suit. Maybe with lightning strike motif. Or like the Power Ranger suit. Range of colours. All weather. When we get our Space Force here they could have little hats with corks around them. YOu know to shoo away those pesky space flies.

very nice John. :-p

My boys in the RAN wear camouflage as their normal work gear, they have highly reflective stripes on the sleeves and legs which rather seems to defeat the object of camouflage.

Everybody is having a good laugh about this. Unoticed the news passed that in school lunches the (free) milk and fruit provisions were cut by trump. To spite michelle obama who introduced this because lots of kid’s parents cannot provide fresh fruit every day. This news on space rangers nicely covered it up.

In james bond thunderball US navy seems to have special underwater troops, in orange.

That’s because this is the “Science and Environment” sub-forum …

Please point me to where on this forum I find this news?

Trump did this. We are looking for the rationale explanation for design of the suit. Key word here is rationale. Not in Trump’s vocabulary.

Please don’t let it reflect (no pun intended) poorly on the US as a whole.

If you can’t find it there then perhaps you should start a thread in one of those sections …

Where is the science in this subject? Or the environment?
My point was that this kind of item pops up in the media, the moment government (in this case the american) has something to camouflage

They originally were all going to wear red shirts, but …who would want to beam down to a planet wearing a red shirt…!,

Joking apart, which of you think that the USAF Space Force operates in space?

No, of course not. They operate satellite surveillance and communications, etc. They have both feet firmly on the ground.

Assuming they are in a war zone (like all other ground forces) perhaps some form of camouflage might be of benefit if and when they should be attacked.

Flash Gordon outfits might not be such a good idea after all!

:lol::lol::lol:

Great camouflage on mars though!

:-p

A good point JBR. I had not thought of that tbh.

To be honest, LD, I was joking. I had visions of the Space Force crewing the starship Enterprise!

Being realistic (although I’m not really Realistic), I think the Space Force are also responsible for the Americans’ ICBMs, what few they have left. In that case they are, in fact, underground for most of the time!

In fact, to be even more realistic I seem to remember that this part of their defence forces was once called ‘Space Command’ and included units from the Army and Navy as well. Perhaps it’s all changed now.

No, I think you are probably right. Why send them into space when the job can be done from a nice comfy armchair with a cup of coffee?
