She must be in a very lot of pain. I have hurt my ribs in the past, that was painful enough. To have them broken on both side. It must be agony for her.
Indeed, but hopefully things will be on the up and up again soon.
I hope all is well with pixie and she has had as best she can, had a good christmas.
Her chest pain that may continue for up to six months after surgery, but that of course will become less and less.
Thats not to say she will be in pain for that long
but to be aware its normal if it does occur.
It is however always wise to consult her doctor to be on the safe side.
Thanks Kitty. As a nurse you’re better informed than most of us, and I did tell her to go to the ER if the pain continued, but she assures me it’s normal?
As long as she has been told that by the hospital then thats fine, she should have a list of advice and instructions, which should tell her if/when she needs to consult her doctor.
And yes it is normal, and she is also doing very well from what you have posted
That’s good news Kitty, thank you.
I didn’t realize that about the ribs … had a cracked rib once and the pain was bad, especially when I coughed, and as a smoker and in Winter I coughed a lot. Poor Pixie!!!
Wow … only just read this thread in its entirety.
Mollie … thanks so much for sharing the news.
Aren’t cyber friends wonderful … crossing the boundaries to help support each other.
Pixie … you are one courageous, brave lady. It sounds like you’ve already done the most frightening and hardest part.
One step at a time now … but in the right direction.
And so now … Good health and much happiness to you and your loved ones for 2012.

happy new year to you all its now in the grips of winter in ontario we have snow
It can’t be easy for you to type lass after they sawed through your sternum. The pain must be enormous. Do you have any pain killers?
I also busted a couple of ribs a few years ago and the pain was enormous, so I can go halfway to guessing the pain you’re in, but not in its entirety.
Kitty, who posted earlier, is a nurse, so she’ll have a good idea of what you’re going through, and you’re a real trooper. One day at a time, my friend.
I just wanted to say how well you seam to be doing, your a very brave lady, and if it helps in any way i just want to let you know that the fact your sat here now posting is a credit to you.
Your friend Mollie is correct i can understand what you are going through and
you need to give yourself time to recover
your doing fine, please don’t try and run before you can walk, i know it must be so frustrating, but if you push yourself to much you will just lengthen the recovery period
if i can help you in any way i am happy to do so
Thank you so much for that Kitty. Ann’s daughter is also a nurse, and I’ve urged her not to try to do too much too soon but, she’s always been very active, so the more people supporting her the better, and I know she really does appreciate it.
Mollie i am more than happy to help in any way i can, ann sounds like she is frustrated just by reading her post, and i really do understand.
She is frustrated, Kitty. She’s gone from an active life being nanny to three young boys for more than 13 years, to being at home unable to do much. She took them for walks, played footie with them and kept them entertained until all this happened.
I know she won’t mind my telling you, but she’s up for going back to work at some point, but I’ve put me foot down! It won’t sit easy with her at all though, but I’ll let her tell you what she has planned for when she’s well enough.
Ann darlin’ - good to hear from you and know you are doing so well.
I know you don’t like alcohol, but if you treat it as medicine it will work. Have discovered the secret of sleep - Oromorph (Liquid morphine) + Co-codomol + 1 tot of Brandy = sleep!!!
Hi Pixie it sounds like you have had a really rough time with you operation.
Keep telling yourself the worst is over now and take advantage of the chance to have a rest . I hope you have got some good books to read.
You can be sure people here are thinking of you, eagerly following your progress and wishing you a speedy recovery x :-).
Pixie, hopefully it won’t be too long before you start to feel a lot stronger, in the meantime make sure to get your rest and don’t try to do things before you are ready.
A new year starts for you tomorrow, may everyday be an improvement for you x:-)
Pixie, good to see you posting again, but please take it easy. Must be so frustrating for you when you’re used to being active, but one step at a time, you don’t want to knock yourself back. Take care, and thoughts are with you…
Happy New Year Pixie to you and your family, take care girl.
Hope your ok and please remember every day you will get better and better x
